During his time, Frank Baumholtz was the only All-American basketball player in the history of Ohio University. He later went on to a major league baseball career with the Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, and the Cincinnati Redlegs. Baumholtz led the 1941 Ohio team that advanced to the finals of the National Invitational Basketball tournament. He was Most Valuable Player of that tournament. At the time of induction, Baumholtz ranked fourth in all-time scoring at Ohio University with 1,096 points.
