Ernie Kish was a three-time letter winner on the Ohio baseball team (1939-1941). Described as "a power hitter and great base runner," his career batting average was .320. His top year was his senior season when he hit .383. In a game against Ohio Wesleyan, Kish walked, stole second, third, and home, which is a rare feat. He received offers from three different major league baseball teams before his graduation, but his father wished that he complete his education first. He played one season in the major leagues with the Philadelphia Athletics.
