Dion Byrum was a member of the Ohio football team from 2002-2006. As a player for the Ohio Bobcats, Dion Byrum earned All-American Honors from the American Football Coaches Association following his senior year. He was also named Second Team All-American by Sports Illustrated, Second Team All-American by the Associated Press, and First Team All-Mid-American Conference. He finished his senior campaign tied for first in the MAC and second nationally with six interceptions and ran back two of those for touchdowns. In 2005, Byrum was one of 12 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is presented to the National’s best collegiate defensive back. Most notably, in September of 2005, he recorded two interceptions for touchdowns, including an 85-yarder in overtime that led to the Bobcats’ win against Pittsburgh. His 153 total interceptions return yardage was second in the nation, while his three defensive touchdowns ranked first. He then signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent.
