Ohio Volleyball Set For MAC Tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Ohio volleyball team (17-12, 7-7 MAC) will compete in the MAC Tournament this week, beginning on Thursday. Ohio is the No. 5 seed and will face No. 8 Kent State in the first round on Thursday, November 21 at 4:30 p.m. at the Stroh Center on the campus of Bowling Green State University.

All matches will be hosted by Bowling Green. The winner of Kent State – Ohio will take on No. 4 Ball State on Friday, November 22 at 4:30 p.m. All matches of the tournament will be streamed live on ESPN+, and voice of Ohio Volleyball Jake Hromada will call every match live on OhioBobcats.com.

No. 1 Miami won the MAC and earned a double bye to the semifinals along with No. 2 Central Michigan. The championship match of the MAC Volleyball Championship will be played on Sunday, November 24 at 4:30 p.m. A full bracket can be found here.

Ohio is 36-9 all-time in 18 previous MAC Championship appearances. The Bobcats have won the league tournament crown nine times, with the last coming in 2015. Ohio last played Kent State in the MAC Tournament in the semifinals of 2015, winning 3-1 en route to a championship.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Ohio is on a four-match winning streak after taking down Akron and Buffalo last weekend. 
  • Tia Jimerson and Vera Giacomazzi won MAC weekly awards for their performance against Akron and Buffalo last weekend. 
  • Jimerson was named MAC Player of the Year on Wednesday. Jimerson is the 11th Bobcat to win the MAC's top honor. 
  • Giacomazzi was named MAC Setter of the Year Wednesday. Giacomazzi has won that award twice in her career, joining Abby Gilleland as the only other Bobcat to win the award. 
  • Jimerson and Giacomazzi was joined by Maggie Nedoma on the All-MAC First Team. 
  • Giacomazzi is No. 3 in the nation in total assists at 1,259. Giacomazzi is No. 12 in assists per set at 11.45.
  • Ohio is No. 33 in the nation as a team in team kills at 1,466.  

SCOUTING KENT STATE
Kent State is the No. 8 seed at 14-14 and 7-9 in the MAC. Ohio swept Kent State both of their meetings this season. Erin Gardner is No. 15 in the nation in total digs at 578 and No. 16 in the nation in digs per set at 5.35. KSU is No. 18 in the nation in digs per set as a team at 17.64.
