BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Ohio volleyball team (17-12, 9-7 MAC) earned the No. 5 seed in the 2019 Mid-American Conference Volleyball Tournament, the league announced on Saturday evening. Ohio will face No. 8 Kent State in the first round on Thursday, November 21 at 4:30 p.m. at the Stroh Center on the campus of Bowling Green State University.
All matches will be hosted by Bowling Green. The winner of Kent State – Ohio will take on No. 4 Ball State on Friday, November 22 at 4:30 p.m. All matches of the tournament will be streamed live on ESPN+, and voice of Ohio Volleyball Jake Hromada will call every match live on OhioBobcats.com.
No. 1 Miami won the MAC and earned a double bye to the semifinals along with No. 2 Central Michigan. The championship match of the MAC Volleyball Championship will be played on Sunday, November 24 at 4:30 p.m. A full bracket can be found here.
Ohio is 36-9 all-time in 18 previous MAC Championship appearances. The Bobcats have won the league tournament crown nine times, with the last coming in 2015. Ohio last played Kent State in the MAC Tournament in the semifinals of 2015, winning 3-1 en route to a championship.
The Bobcats have faced Kent State twice this season, sweeping the Golden Flashes both times. In the last match against KSU on November 7, junior middle blocker Tia Jimerson (Sugar Hill, Ga.) had the second-highest attacking clip in school history at .857 after 18 kills on 21 attacks.
Ohio is currently on a four-match winning streak and swept Kent State, Central Michigan and Buffalo during the streak.
