CLEVELAND -- Sophomore libero Emma Tupa (Brecksville, Ohio) was named Mid-American Conference East Division Co-Defensive Player of the Week for her performance against Bowling Green and Miami, the league announced on Monday (Nov. 4).
The award is Tupa's first of her career. Ohio has won a MAC weekly award five times this season. Junior middle blocker Tia Jimerson (Sugar Hill, Ga.) has won the offensive and defensive award once this season, junior setter Vera Giacomazzi (San Vendemiano, Italy) took home MAC Setter of the Week once and redshirt sophomore Dahlias Bouyer (Brownstown, Mich.) won the defensive award once.
Tupa had an impressive weekend averaging 7.43 digs per set and totaling 52 digs in just her fourth and fifth start in an Ohio uniform. Tupa started the weekend with 31 digs in four sets against Miami, her career-high, the followed it up with 21 scoops - here second-highest total of her career - in three sets against Bowling Green. Tupa did not commit a reception error over the weekend and also added an ace against Miami.
Ohio will return to action on Thursday, Nov. 7 against Kent State inside The Convocation Center. First serve is set for 7 p.m. One hour prior to first serve, head coach Deane Webb will host a free chalk talk inside the Rohr Room. The event is free and open to the public.
