ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio volleyball team (8-6, 0-1 MAC) fell in the Mid-American Conference opener to Bowling Green (7-6, 1-0 MAC), 3-2 (23-25, 21-25, 25-14, 25-16, 15-13), on Friday evening inside the Convocation Center.
Ohio had 69 kills as a team and four Bobcats totaled double-digit kills as Ohio outkilled BGSU, 69-62. Junior middle blocker Tia Jimerson ended the match with 17 kills while hitting .333. Freshman outside hitter Olivia Margolies (Galena, Ohio) had 15 hammers, junior opposite Maggie Nedoma (Brook Park, Ohio) had 13 and graduate transfer Shayla Phillip (Columbia, S.C.) recorded 10.
The Bobcats had 102 total team digs and outdug BG, 102-95. Junior libero Macy Reihing (Lexington, Ky.) had a season-high 28 digs for the Bobcats, while senior outside hitter Lizzie Stephens (Dallas, Texas) had a career-high 21 scoops. Nedoma produced her fifth double-double of the season when she had 16 digs, while junior setter Vera Giacomazzi (San Vendemiano, Italy) and senior defensive specialist Meredith Howe (Grand Rapids, Mich.) had 14 each.

Giacomazzi had her 10th double-double of the season when she added 57 assists to her 14 digs. Giacomazzi led the offense to 69 kills. She rounded our her match with five kills on nine swings for a .444 attacking clip. Ohio had 62 assists as a team as Reihing had three and Nedoma had two. BG had 55 total assists.
Ohio had four total blocks, with junior outside hitter Lauren Park (Millersburg, Ohio) and Jimerson each had one solo stuff. Jimerson added an assisted block, along with Margolies and Nedoma.
The Bobcats had three aces. Stephens, Reihing and Nedoma each had one.
Ohio hit .151 as a team and hit a team-best .310 in the second set.
The Bobcats will return home to continue MAC play tomorrow (Sept. 28). Ohio will take on Miami at 5 p.m. inside the Convocation Center.
