The 2023-24 season marks Steven Champlin's second year as Assistant Coach for the Ohio track and field program.
Champlin joins us from Louisiana Tech, where he recently completed his third season with men's and women's track and field programs. Prior to LA Tech, Champlin served as a volunteer coach at Northern Arizona University. Champlin works primarily with the team's sprinters and hurdlers, as well as relay and 400/800 combination runners.
During Champlin's time with the Bulldogs, he coached multiple athletes to top-8 finishes at both indoor and outdoor Conference USA Championships, helping them to PR along the way. During the 2021 outdoor season, Champlin even saw an athlete to the NCAA East Regional.
Additionally, Champlin was tasked with recruiting, where he helped sign numerous stand-out high school athletes to advance the Louisiana Tech track programs.
The former Texas Tech standout earned First Team All-American honors three times as a Red Raider, running in the 4x400-meter relay, 400-meter race, 200-meter run and the 100-meter run while at Texas Tech.
Champlin notched 10 first-place finishes in Lubbock, setting personal bests in the 400 with a time of 45.01 and the 200 with a time of 20.89. Overall, Champlin earned 12 All-Big 12 honors and was the Big 12 Champion at the Texas Tech Indoors in 2018.
Champlin earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and athletic coaching from Texas Tech University in May 2018. He also earned a master's degree in film and media studies from Arizona State University in August 2019.
