Strong Performances From Ohio Track And Field At YSU Invitational

Youngstown, Ohio – Ohio track and field had a strong showing at the YSU Invitational meet that had over twenty teams competing today (Jan. 18).


Senior Gaza Odunaiya (Athens, Ohio) placed first overall in the weight throw reaching a season high mark of 19.30m. Sophomore Abby Moore (Rootstown, Ohio) placed third with a season high mark of 18.52m. Moore also placed sixth for Ohio in the shot put with a distance of 13.54m.

In the unseeded flight of high jump junior Tajah Haley (Washington, Pa.) recorded a fifth place finish with a height of 1.54m.

Junior Ashleigh Carr (Oakland, Neb.) took third place in the 400m dash with a time of 57.89 seconds. Senior Emily Deering (Geneva, Ohio) finished seventh with a time of 59.06.

In the 1-mile run, senior Madison Sury (Waterford, Ohio) finished in fifth place with a time of 5:10.67

The 3000 meter run found senior Alyssa Atkinson (Granville, Ohio) finishing second with a time of 10:11.8. Following close behind was sophomore Hailey Bowes (Arlington Heights, Ill.) finishing fifth with a time of 10:22.24.

In the 5000 meter run senior Christina Seas (West Union, Ohio) finished third with a final time of 18:21.41.

The last event of the evening was the women's 4x4 where the relay team of Deering, senior Erin Stewart (Chardon, Ohio), senior Thelma Agyekum (Delaware, Ohio), and Carr finished second with a combined time of 3:58.96.

The Bobcats will return to action this Friday (Jan.25) for a two day competition to compete at the Thundering Herd Open hosted by Marshall University in Huntington, W. Va.
