Ohio Track and Field Opens Outdoor Competition at Adidas Winthrop Invitational

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio track and field team kicks off the 2018 outdoor season at the 2018 Adidas Winthrop Invitational (Mar. 23-24) hosted by Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. Action will begin on Friday with field events at 2 p.m. and the running events at 3.

The second day of competition will kick off with field events at 9 a.m. and the running events at 9:30. For the final meet schedule, look here.

The Bobcats come off a spring hiatus after concluding the indoor track and field season at the 2018 Indoor Track & Field Mid-American Conference Championships. Ohio finished the meet in 12th place with a final total of 13 points scored. The 'Cats recorded four top-eight finishes over the weekend.

Running Events
During yesterday's competition, junior Emily Deering (Geneva, Ohio) qualified for the finals of the 800m run in the preliminary round. Deering went on to place fourth overall with a finals time of 2:12.24.

Ohio had three Bobcats racing in the 3K where junior Alyssa Atkinson (Granville, Ohio) came in 13th with a final time of 10:03.45, sophomore Abby Miller (Mansfield, Ohio) placed 17th with a time of 10:10.31, and senior Christina Seas (West Union, Ohio) rounded out the top-20 with a time of 10:26.06.

The running events concluded with Ohio's 4x400m relay team of sophomore Marissa Handel (Highland Heights, Ohio), junior Thelma Agyekum (Delaware, Ohio), senior Kaitlyn Logan (Granville, Ohio), and Deering clocking in a time of 4:03.71 to place 12th overall.

Field Events
Senior Jordan Porter (South Point, Ohio) earned a spot on the podium in the shot put with a throw of 14.79m to place seventh. Freshman Abby Moore (Rootstown, Ohio) recorded a throw of 13.40m to place 13th overall.

In the triple jump, sophomore Keilah Causey (Gahanna, Ohio) placed 18th with a jump of 10.94m.
