ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio women's swimming & diving team (0-4, 0-2 MAC) notched four first-place finishes in a 182-116 loss to No. 19-ranked Akron today at the Ohio University Aquatic Center.
"Just seeing that progress from the first two dual meets that we had this season to now," said second-year head coach Mason Norman of the positives he took away from the Bobcats' second Mid-American Conference dual meet of the season. A couple of freshmen getting their first-ever wins in dual meets, versus a MAC opponents especially, is huge."
Junior Samantha Glass (Villa Hills, Ky.) took first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.63, finishing ahead of freshman Madeline Marks (Bentonville, Ark.). Glass also tallied two second-place finishes, finishing as the runner-up in the both the 400-yard individual medley (4:26.79) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.63).
Freshman McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio) recorded three top-two finishes. She won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.84, took second in the 100-yard freestyle in 51.78 and finished as the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.19.
Junior Katherine Garrity (Eagan, Minn.) won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:23.94 after taking second in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:07.27 and third in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:27.49.
Sophomore Madison Haschemeyer (Springfield, Ill.) produced a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking a 1:54.97, after taking third in the 100-yard freestyle in 53.47.
Other top-three swimming finishes for the Bobcats included freshman Emma Fortman (Madeira, Ohio) taking second in the 100-yard backstroke in 57.92 and third in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:06.18, senior Emilia Lahtinen (Ylojarvi, Finland) placing second in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:22.63 and sophomore Rebekah Klem (Columbiana, Ohio) finishing third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.67.
Ohio's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Grau, Fortman, freshman Grace Riddle (Canal Winchester, Ohio) and freshman Maya Conte (Brecksville, Ohio) took second in 1:36.79 while the 400-yard medley relay team of Fortman, Lahtinen, Glass and Riddle finished second in 3:55.38.
Sophomore Taylor Miller (Latrobe, Pa.) turned in two second-place finishes on the diving boards, posting a score of 273.38 on three-meter and a score of 264.30 on one-meter.
Ohio will be back in action Nov. 21-24 at the Ohio State Fall Open Invitational in Columbus.
