ATHENS, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference coaches' preseason poll has been released with Ohio swimming and diving picked to finish fifth, the league announced today (Sept. 30).
Akron was unanimously chosen to win the MAC after winning their sixth-consecutive conference title last year. Selected to follow the Zips in the 2019 MAC coaches' preseason poll is Buffalo, while Eastern Michigan was selected to finish third. The Miami RedHawks were picked just six points ahead of Ohio, coming in fourth, with the Bobcats coming in fifth. Finishing behind Ohio was Bowling Green, Ball State and Toledo, respectively.
The Bobcats finished the 2018-19 season at the Mid-American Conference Championships with a fifth-place finish and a total of 421 points scored. Compared to the previous season, the Bobcats improved their finish by two places and 168 points.
Ohio returns senior Emilia Lahtinen (Ylojarvi, Finland), junior Hannah Schlegel (Birdsboro, Pa.), and sophomore Kelsey Morgan (Pickerington, Ohio) for the 2019-20 campaign. Lahtinen, Schlegel, and Morgan all finished events with times good enough for the NCAA B-Standards in 2018-19. On the diving side, senior Olivia Dillon (Newcastle, Australia) and sophomore Taylor Miller (Latrobe, Pa.) represented the Bobcats at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships last season.
Ohio kicks off the season with its annual Green and White meet on Friday, Oct. 11 at 3:30 p.m. in the Ohio University Aquatic Center.
