ATHENS, Ohio -- Three home meets against Akron, Ball State and Marshall highlight the Ohio swimming and diving team's 2019-20 schedule, which was announced by second-year head coach Mason Norman.
"We are excited to announce our meet schedule for the upcoming season," Norman said. "We have added a couple of competitions and programs to the schedule that fall in line with the direction that we are taking our program. We face Kentucky, South Carolina and Marshall in dual meets as well as an invitational in November with Ohio State and various other programs out of conference. Along with the traditional Mid-American Conference programs we face this season, we built a schedule to challenge our team and effectively prepare them for the championship meet in February and beyond."
The Bobcats host an inner squad meet to begin the season with a Green vs. White exhibition meet on Friday, Oct. 11 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Ohio opens the regular season with a trip to Lexington, Ky. and a meet against SEC opponents Kentucky and South Carolina on Friday, Oct. 18 at 10 a.m. ET. The following Friday (Oct. 25), Ohio travels to across the state to compete in its first MAC matchup against Bowling Green. Then, the Bobcats head back home to the Ohio University Aquatic Center for their first regular season home meet against Akron on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. ET.
The Bobcats continue in November with the Ohio State Fall Open Invitational running Thursday, Nov. 21 through Saturday, Nov. 24. On Wednesday, Dec. 4 through Saturday, Dec. 7, the swimmers head to Atlanta, Ga. for the Toyota U.S. Open while the divers will be in Oxford, Ohio competing in the Miami Diving Invitational.
The first meet of 2020 for Ohio comes at Buffalo on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. ET. The following Saturday (Jan. 25), the Bobcats come back home to face MAC opponent Ball State at 1 p.m. ET. To finish out the home schedule, Ohio goes head-to-head with Marshall on Friday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. ET. On Saturday, Feb. 7 and Sunday, February 8, the Bobcats finish out the regular season with a trip back to Columbus to compete in the OSU First Chance Meet.
Ohio returns to Buffalo for the 2019-20 MAC Championships starting Wednesday, Feb. 26 and ending on Saturday, February 29. NCAA Diving Zones take place March 11-14 at a site to be determined. The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America National Invitational Championships will be held in Cleveland, with that event also running March 11-14. The 2020 NCAA Championships take place March 18-21 in Athens, Ga.
Ohio swimming and diving is coming off of a 2018-19 season in which it earned dual meet wins over Marshall, Toledo, Duquesne, Xavier and Youngstown State and placed fifth at the 2019 MAC Championships in its first season under the direction of Norman. The Bobcats are set to return All-MAC First Team selection Hannah Schlegel as well as All-MAC Second Team honorees Emilia Lahtinen and Kelsey Morgan.
