Rafael Simoes enters his first season as graduate assistant coach for the Ohio soccer program under seventh-year head coach Aaron Rodgers in 2019.
Simoes spent the previous two seasons at Marshall University, serving as the men’s soccer program’s volunteer assistant coach. In addition to coaching, he spent the 2016 season playing for AFC Ann Arbor, a semi-professional soccer league based in Michigan. During his time at AFC Ann Arbor, the team was crowned the Great Lakes Conference Champions in 2017.
The Brazilian native graduated from University of Charleston – West Virginia in 2018 with a degree in business administration. Simoes was part of the NCAA DII Championship team for men’s soccer in 2017. During his four years at UCWV, the team had an overall record of 82-8-5, including three championship appearances and one NCAA DII National Title.
