BOWLING GREEN, Ohio– The Ohio women's soccer team (6-6-3, 4-2-2 MAC) continued action on Sunday (Oct. 14), falling on the road to Mid-American Conference leading Bowling Green (10-3-2, 8-0-0 MAC), 3-1.
"Give credit to BG for the excellent run they are on right now," head coach Aaron Rodgers said. "We knew they would be dangerous on set pieces and they scored on those. Once again, this group fought back from a goal down to tie it up, which shows great resilience. An excellent unbeaten streak has ended, but now it's time to start another. This group has big things ahead."
Bowling Green opened the game with the first attempt in the first minute, however the ball would go high of the net. The Falcons would get another shot off in the fourth minute that would be blocked. However, the Falcons would get a corner kick and would capitalize off of it with in the seventh minute, Chelsee Washington scored on a header off the corner to put BGSU up 1-0.
The Bobcats would get their first attempt in the 11thminute when Alivia Milesky (Plain City, Ohio) would fire the ball at the net, forcing a BGSU save.
The Falcons would then start forcing the pressure on the Ohio defense, registering the next four attempts and forcing starting keeper Sydney Malham (Nashville, Tenn.) to make a save.
The Bobcats would then strike in the 30thminute when off a comer kick for Maria Collica (Solon, Ohio), Milesky would head the ball past the keeper, tying the game at 1-1.
Unfortunately, the Falcons would respond when Maureen Kennedy would score in the 32ndminute to put BGSU up, 2-1.
Neither team would get another attempt through the remaining 10 minutes, and the game would go to halftime with the Bobcats trailing, 2-1.
At the half, Ohio would be outshot nine to two, while Malham would allow two goals and make one save through the first 45 minutes of play.
Ohio would record the first attempt of the second half, when Collica would fire the ball toward the net in the 48thminute, but it would go wide.
BGSU would record the net attempt in the 52ndminute, however the Ohio defense would block the attempt, keeping the game at 2-1.
Another Ohio attempt would come in the 57thminute on a ball from Rianna Reese (Liberty Township, Ohio) that would go just high of the net. Milesky would register another attempt in the 61stminute, on a ball header that would force the BGSU keeper to make a save.
Another attempt from the Falcons in the 66thminute would go wide of the Bobcats' net. However, Sydney Leckie (Medina, Ohio) would get an attempt of her own in the 71stminute, but it would be blocked by the BGSU defense, keeping the game at 2-1.
Moments later, Leckie would register another attempt off a comer kick, however the ball would go wide of the net. Then in the 80thminute, Bryce Hueber (Cincinnati, Ohio) would register a shot of her own, but it would go wide of the net.
Bowling Green would add on moments later in the 81stminute when Erica Hubert scored to give the Falcons a 3-1 lead.
Ohio would keep pushing, with Hueber registering another shot moments later on a ball that forced the BGSU keeper to make a save.
Unfortunately, the Bobcats would be unable to recover and would fall by the final of 3-1.
Overall, Ohio was outshot 17-11, with the Bobcats getting four shots on goal compared to BGSU's seven.
Individually, Milesky led the way with one goal on three shots, while Hueber added two attempts, as did Leckie. Collica added an assist and one shot, while Reese also registered a shot as well.
Up next, the Bobcats return to Athens to being a three-game home stand to finish up the regular season. The home stand will start on Thursday, Oct. 18 when the Bobcats host Northern Illinois at 3 p.m. at Chessa Field.
