ATHENS, Ohio– After two full weeks of camp, the Ohio soccer team took the field for the first time in 2018, taking on Youngstown State in an exhibition match Friday afternoon (Aug. 10) at Chessa Field. Led by junior Alivia Milesky's three goals and two assists, the Bobcats downed the Penguins, 6-0.
Ohio would get the first goal of the game, on the first shot of the game, when Milesky (Plain City, Ohio) finished a pass from Sydney Leckie (Medina, Ohio), giving the Bobcats a 1-0 in the fourth minute.
Ohio would register their next shot of the game in the 18thminute on a ball from Abby Townsend (Powell, Ohio), which would be saved by the YSU keeper.
After a shot by Victoria Breeden in the 23rdminute, Youngstown State would get their first shot of the game a minute later on a ball that would go high of the net. Then, in the final 10 minutes of the first half, the Ohio offense would pepper the YSU defense, with Taylor Dickerson (Cincinnati, Ohio) registering the final three shots of the first half.
The Bobcats led the Penguins 1-0 at the half, with Milesky leading the way with one goal on one shot. Overall, Ohio registered nine shots, with four of them on goal, while YSU recorded one shot.
Ohio would open the second half as quickly as they did in the first, with Abby Townsend scoring in the 48thminute, with an assist from Milesky.
A minute after Leckie missed a goal of her own, Milesky would score again in the 51stminute, before adding her third goal of the game one minute later on an assist from Abby Townsend, putting the Bobcats up 4-0 in the 52ndminute,
Abby Townsend would add her second goal of the game in the 54thminute, and was once again assisted by Milesky, putting Ohio up 5-0.
The Bobcats would register two shots over the next 10 minutes, before Haley Miller added a goal of her own in the 67thminute, giving the Bobcats a 6-0 lead. Leckie would add her second assist of the game on the goal.
The Bobcats would register shots from Madelyn Kah (Hamilton, Ohio), Paige Pappanastos (Orland Park, Ill.) and Courtney Daugerdas (Libertyville, Ill.) over the final 15 minutes of the contest, the Youngstown State unable to generate any offense, sending the Bobcats home with the 6-0 victory.
Overall, Milesky led the way with three goals and two assists on four shots on goal. Abby Townsend also registered two goals and one assist on three shots. Leckie added two assists while Miller also added a goal. Overall, Ohio registered six goals, five assists on 20 shots, with 11 on goal, while YSU registered one shot.
The Bobcats return to the field on Friday, Aug. 17 when they open the regular season at Pittsburgh at 7 p.m. The Bobcats will then take on Robert Morris on Sunday, Aug. 19 at 1 p.m.
