ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio wrestling team (1-2) will play host to its first home dual meet of the 2018-19 season on Thursday (Dec. 20) when it welcomes Chattanooga (1-1). The matchup will get underway at 7 p.m. ET. It will be Ugly Sweater Night at the Convo, and fans will receive free Christmas ornaments.
Bobcat fans will have their first opportunity to see Ohio in action. The Bobcats are ranked second among Mid-American Conference teams according to the league's December rankings. Ohio boats seven student-athletes ranked in the top-four of their respective weight classes in the league, with redshirt junior Shakur Laney (Canal Winchester, Ohio) ranked first at 125 pounds and freshman Alec Hagan (Eureka, Mo.) ranked first at 149 pounds. Ranked second in their respective weight classes for the second month in a row are redshirt sophomore Mario Guillen (Perrysburg, Ohio) at 133 and redshirt junior Zac Carson (Akron, Ohio) at 157. Sophomore Aaron Naples (Brunswick, Ohio) moved up to the No. 3 spot at 197. Redshirt senior Zack Parker (Felton, Del.) is now ranked fourth at heavyweight. Senior Cameron Kelly (Bellbrook, Ohio) remains ranked fourth at 141.

The Bobcats are coming off of a 33-6 loss to No. 23-ranked Iowa State on Sunday (Dec. 16) at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa. Carson and freshman Colt Yinger (Nelsonville, Ohio) accounted for the Bobcats' two individual victories over the Cyclones. Before the intermission, Carson earned the first win for the Bobcats at 157 with a 7-4 decision over redshirt junior Chase Straw, making the team score 19-3. Yinger continues to impress as he individually improved to 6-1 on the season with a hard-fought win over redshirt senior Skyler St. John, 4-3, at 165.
Chattanooga is coming off of a 23-15 road win at Edinboro on Tuesday (Dec. 18). The Mocs trailed 15-9 before taking the last four matches. Freshman Ryan Resnick opened the night with a 9-4 decision at 157. Junior Dominic Lampe scored a win at 184. Senior Alonzo Allen got the rally started with a five-point tech fall at 125. Junior Jake Huffine earned a pin at 133. Junior Chris Debien scored a 7-3 win at 141, while freshman Mason Wallace closed out the night with an 8-1 decision at 149.
The dual meet against Chattanooga will mark Ohio's final event of the calendar year. The Bobcats will travel to Chattanooga, Tenn., to participate in the Southern Scuffle Jan. 1-2.
