Brackets Revealed for 2018 NCAA Wrestling Championships

ATHENS, Ohio – The brackets have been announced for the 2018 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships the NCAA announced during the Wrestling Selection Show on Wednesday (March 7). The Mid-American Conference will play host to this year's Championships at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio on March 15-17.

Ohio junior Cameron Kelly (Bellbrook, Ohio) was the only Bobcat to be selected for this year's tournament, being placed in a pigtail match in the first session of the day against North Dakota State's Cam Sykora (22-10) in the 133-class. The winner of that match will go on to face Lehigh's No. 6 seeded Scott Parker (18-3).

Kelly has recorded a 25-6 record on the season, earning his second trip to the NCAA Championships in his time as a Bobcat. In the 2015-16 season, Kelly posted a 23-9 record and qualified for the Championships as the No. 13 seed in the 133-pound weight class.

In this year's MAC Tournament, Kelly picked up a tech fall victory over Central Michigan's Dresden Simon in the first round of the weekend. Kelly's victory over Simon marked the second time he defeated CMU wrestler. In Ohio's match with the Chippewa's, Kelly posted an 8-6 comeback decision win at home over Simon. Kelly's MAC Tournament run would continue in the semifinals where the junior dropped the match to Buffalo's Bryan Lantry via major decision, 16-4. Kelly advanced to the third-place match at 133-pounds after beating NIU's Alijah Jeffery 8-0 via major decision. Kelly was unable to wrestle in the third-place match due to medical forfeit but earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships with the fourth-place finish.

Overall, 34 wrestlers from the MAC will be competing in this year's Championships after earning 47 at-large selections. 283 wrestlers qualified automatically through individual Conference Championships as the season has been winding down. At-large selections were made by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee using the following selection criteria: head-to-head competition, quality wins, results against common opponents, winning percentage, rating percentage index, coaches ranking and qualifying event placement.
