ATHENS, Ohio– The Ohio women's golf team return to action this week when they head to Dade City, Fla. to compete in the 2019 Spring Break Shootout, hosted by Western Kentucky and Florida Gulf Cost. The competition takes place March 11-12 at the 6,056 Lake Jovita Golf Club.
Par is set at 7with Monday's rounds set to begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, with Tuesday's final round set to start with an 8:30 shotgun start. Fans will be able to follow along on birdefire.com, with scoring updating every nine holes.
Competing at this year's event is, Arkansas State, Arkansas Little Rock, Ball State, Troy, Austin Peay, FGCU, Louisiana Monroe, Belmont, Illinois State, Jacksonville, Samford, Oakland, Ohio, Southern Illinois and WKU.
Competing for Ohio in this year's event are seniors Emily Hughes (Columbus, Ohio), Nicole Smiley (Dublin, Ohio), junior Marissa Balish (Allison Park, Pa.), freshman Catherine Loftus (Roswell, Ga.) and senior Chloe McKinzie (Medina, Ohio). Competing unattached is Alicia Porvasnik.
This season, Hughes leads Ohio, maintaining a 75.94 stroke average and finishing as Ohio's top-finisher twice, with her stroke average putting her at the top of the Mid-American Conference. Smiley has also been solid for the Bobcats, registering as Ohio's top finisher in three tournaments this season with a 77.56 stroke average, securing fourth overall in the MAC.
Up next, the Bobcats head to Richmond, Ky., March 29-30 for the 2019 Lady Colonel Classic hosted by Eastern Kentucky at the Arlington Golf Course.
