NORMAL, Ill.– The Ohio women's golf team wrapped up play at the 2018 Redbird Invitational hosted by Illinois State at the 5,983-yard Weibring Golf Club on Monday (Sept. 10). The Bobcats finished their first tournament of the season in sixth place after shooting a 304, giving them a two-day total of 926 (+62).
Northern Illinois took home the team championship, finishing the event +18 (882).
Leading the way for Ohio was senior Emily Hughes (Columbus, Ohio), who finished Monday with a tournament-low round of 71, giving her a two-day total of 225 (+9), tying her for ninth place.
Fellow senior Nicole Smiley (Dublin, Ohio), finished in 17thplace, recording a 73 in the third round, helping her finish +12 (228) on the weekend. Freshman Catherine Loftus (Roswell. Ga.) wrapped up her first tournament tied for 34thplace after posting a third-round score of 83, giving her a tournament total of 236 (+20).
Junior Marissa Balish (Allison Park, Pa.) finished the Redbird Invitational tied for 53rdplace after finishing Monday with an 81, helping her finish +25 (241).
Rounding out the scoring Bobcats was freshmen Alicia Porvasnik (Hinckley, Ohio), who finished tied for 64thplace. Porvasnik finished Monday with a score of 81, giving her a three-round total of 245 (+29).
Playing unattached for the Bobcats was sophomore Ashley Flynn (Dublin, Ohio), who finished tied for 47thplace after recording a round of 79 on Monday. The 79 helped Flynn finish the tournament with a three-round total of 240 (+24).
Up next, the Bobcats are set to participate in the 2018 Cardinal Classic Sept. 17-18. The event, hosted by Ball State, will take place at The Players Club in Yorktown, Ind.
