CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Ohio Women's basketball team was selected to finish third in the Mid-American Conference East Division in the 2017-18 Women's Basketball Coaches Preseason Poll. Senior guard Taylor Agler was also named to the Preseason All-MAC East Team, in a vote of the league's 12 coaches, the conference announced today.
Under fifth-year coach Bob Boldon, the Bobcats collected one out of 12 first place votes to finish third in the MAC East Division, behind Buffalo and Kent State and in front of Miami, Bowling Green and Akron.
Central Michigan was selected first in the MAC West, earning 10 first place votes, finishing in front of Toledo, Ball State, Western Michigan, Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan.
Central Michigan was selected to win the regular season title, earning 10 votes. CMU was also selected to win this season's tournament title, earning nine first-place votes.
This is the first time that Agler has been named to the MAC East Preseason Team. Last season, Agler played in all 32 games for Ohio, starting 31 of them. The Westerville, Ohio native averaged 7.4 points a game while shooting .405 from the field and .336 from three-point range. She also dished out 104 assists and had 61 steals.
Last season the Bobcats finished 22-10 overall and 12-6 in the MAC. The Bobcats advanced to the first round of the 2017 WNIT. Last season, Ohio averaged 69.3 points a game and shot .387 from the field. Ohio is set to return one starter and six bench players, including 2017 All-Freshman Team member Amani Burke. The Bobcats will welcome five newcomers to the team.
The Bobcats open play on Saturday, Nov. 4 for their exhibition match against Walsh. Game time is set for 1 p.m. inside the Convocation Center. The Bobcats will open the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 11 when Ohio hosts High Point at 2 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
