KNOXVILLE, Tenn.-- Three members of the Ohio softball team were named to the 2018 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Mideast Region Teams, the organization announced today. Senior pitcher Danielle Stiene and junior third baseman Alex Day were named to the All-Mideast Region First Team, while redshirt junior Michaela Dorsey was named to the All-Mideast Region Third Team. It is the first time in program history that the Bobcats have had more than one student-athlete named to the All-Region teams.
Stiene (Loveland, Ohio) earned a First Team nod after finishing up the regular season with a 27-6 record, setting a new Ohio softball single season wins mark in the process. She finished with a 1.51 ERA while making 38 appearances, 30 starts and registering 24 complete games and 13 shutouts, also a new Ohio single season mark. In 212.2 innings, she allowed 46 earned runs, walked 53 and struck out a career-high 257 batters, while opponents only hit .178 against her. Stiene was named the Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the year, named First Team All-MAC and earned the MAC East Pitcher of the Week award six times during the season. She also moved herself into second all-time in program history in strikeouts this season with her 579thstrikeout.
In conference play, Stiene 12-1 on the year and registering a 1.02 ERA. In 89.1 innings of work, Stiene allowed 18 runs, with 13 of them earned. In 15 appearances, she made 12 starts, registered 12 complete games and six shutouts. Overall, she walked 23 batters and struck out 105 batters that she faced, while only allowing opponents to hit .161 against her.
In the MAC Tournament, Stiene went 4-0 with a 0.26 ERA, making all four starts and registering three shutouts, while striking out 31 and allowing only one run in 27.0 innings of work. On May 11 in the MAC Tournament semifinals against Northern Illinois, Stiene pitched a six-inning no hitter, and her performances in the tournament earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team and the MAC Tournament MVP.
Day (Hilliard, Ohio) earned a spot on the First Team after finishing the season with a .344 batting average, registering a team-high 63 hits, eight doubles, three triples, a team-leading 12 homeruns and 44 RBI. She also registered a .405 on base percentage, while drawing 15 walks. Day also earned a spot on the All-MAC First Team and was named the MAC East Player of the Week on April 17.
In conference play, Day hit .378 with 31 hits, four doubles, one triple and seven homeruns. She scored 21 runs and registered 30 RBI, while registering a .707 slugging percentage. She drew five walks and registered a .411 on base percentage. In 23 starts at third base, Day recorded a .938 fielding percentage with 21 putouts, 39 assists and helped turn two double plays.
In the MAC Tournament, Day hit.364 with four hits, one triple, one RBI and a .545 slugging percentage, while earning a spot on the MAC All-Tournament Team.
Dorsey (Grove City, Ohio) earned a spot on the All-Mideast Region Third Team. Dorsey concluded a .318 batting average, registering 41 hits, 10 doubles, eight homeruns and 33 RBI wile registering a .581 slugging percentage. Dorsey drew 13 walks, stole four bases and recorded a .385 on base percentage.
In conference play, Dorsey hit .308 with 20 hits, six doubles three homeruns and 11 RBI, while slugging .538 and drawing eight walks. In the MAC Tournament, Dorsey hit the game-winning two-run homerun in the bottom of the second inning, helping Ohio secure the 2-0 win in the MAC Tournament Championship game. Because of her performance during that game, Dorsey also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
