ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio softball program has added right handed pitcher Mackensie Kohl to the 2018-19 signing class, head coach Jodi Hermanek announced today (Nov. 15). The addition of Kohl brings the signing class to four.
"The coaching staff is thrilled to add Mackensie to the 2018 class of signees," Hermanek said. "Mackensie is a pitcher who brings a great variety of pitches to our pitching roster and she comes to us with a high school championship, and experience playing for elite summer ball teams."
Kohl (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) lettered three times at Marter Dei High School under Jessica Foley and Jim Bolinger. She helped Mater Dei High School, Santa Ana to a CIF-SS Division I Championship in 2016 and will be the team's starting pitcher her senior year. As a junior in 2017, Kohl earned Defensive "MVP" Player of the Year, All League Trinity Second Team, All County Third Team and won the Alan Dugard Championship where Kohl threw back-to-back shutouts in the semifinal and championship round.
Kohl's travel ball experience includes stints with the California Cruisers Sievers, Firecrackers Brashear and Firecrackers Blanco. In 2017 with Firecrackers Brashear, she helped her team to an 18U Southern California Coastal championship and a top-10 finish in the 18U PGF Premier. In 2016, Kohl assisted Firecrackers Brashear to a PGF Platinum championship.
In the classroom, Kohl was honored to the National Society of High School Honors. Her extra-curricular activities include Red Cross Club, Gone to the Dogs Rescue, Someone Cares Soup Kitchen, Homeless Essentials Bag Project, Disney Club and the Marter Dei Youth Softball Camp. Her hobbies include community service, traveling, fashion and photography.
Born August 21, 1999, she is the daughter of Kelly Kohl and Michael "Mickey" Harris. Her father played football for LSU from 1984-88. Kohl plans to major in Business and start a career in business management and marketing sports.
