DEKALB, Ill. – Ohio men's and women's cross country continued their strong 2019 season at the 2019 MAC Cross Country Championships in DeKalb, Ill. The men finished in sixth place, while the women came in seventh.
Redshirt senior Madison Sury (Waterford, Ohio) led the way on the women's side, coming in 12th overall in the 6K race, with a time of 22:19.7. Junior Hailey Bowes (Arlington Heights, Ill.) finished 24th overall with a time of 22:43.2. Crossing the finish line next for Ohio was sophomore Madelyn Bartolone (Massillon, Ohio), with a time of 23:06.4, good enough for 37th. Senior Melissa Koziol (Burton, Ohio) finished 57th with a time of 23:31.2. Freshman Carina Weaver put in a solid showing in her first conference championships, finishing 69th with a time of 23:59.7. Junior Jessica Hartman (Lebanon, Ohio) and senior Tiffany Hill finished 72nd and 77th, with times of 24:12.9 and 24:28.2, respectively.
On the men's side, junior Josh Park (Amherst, Ohio) finished third overall in the men's 8K race, completing his run with a time of 25:31.3. Redshirt junior Griffin Butler (Newark, Ohio) finished the race in 25:47.9, good enough for eighth overall. Sophomore Czar Tarr (Pittsburgh, Pa.) finished 29th overall with a time of 26:27.4, while junior John Jaynes (Canal Winchester, Ohio) finished 39th overall with a time of 26:39.0. Junior Seth Gard (Eaton, Ohio) ran well enough for 47th place, finishing with a time of 26:56.0. Senior Erik McKean (Pataskala, Ohio) and freshman Michael Tonkovich finished in 52nd and 53rd respectively, with times of 27:41.1 and 27:17.6.
Next for Ohio cross country is the Great Lakes Regional in Madison, Wisc. on Friday, Nov. 15. Both the men's and women's teams will send seven runners to the competition.
