Ohio Men's Golf Earns Runner-Up Finish At Phoenix Intercollegiate To Close Out Fall Season

BURLINGTON, N.C. -- The Ohio men's golf team concluded the fall portion of its 2018-19 schedule by earning a runner-up finish at the Phoenix Intercollegiate, posting a combined team score of 848 (-4) -- the second-best three-round total in program history -- thanks in large part to shooting a final-round 279 (-5) today at Alamance Country Club. 

On Monday (Oct. 15), the Bobcats improved upon a first-round 290 (+6) that had them in a tie for eighth with a second-round 279 (-5) that advanced them four spots on the leaderboard. Carding another 279 in the final round helped Ohio advance two more spots on the leaderboard and marked the second top-three finish for the Bobcats in the last three weeks under the direction of first-year head coach Carter Cheves. Ohio tied for third at the Firestone Invitational two weeks ago.

Ohio tallied 50 birdies at the Phoenix Intercollegiate, which tied for the second-most in the tournament field.

Sophomore Zach Crawford (Vandalia, Ohio) continued the strong start to his second collegiate season, vaulting 15 spots on the leaderboard thanks to a final-round 66 (-5) that helped him tie for seventh with a 209 (-4). On Monday, Crawford tallied round scores of 73 (+2) and 70 (-1). His final-round 66 matched the best round score of his career and tied him again for the third-best round score in program history.

Crawford was one of three Bobcats to finish in the top-14 at the Phoenix Intercollegiate. Sophomore Zach Mandry (Vandalia, Ohio) earned the best finish of his collegiate career to date, finishing in a tie for ninth with a career-best 211 (-2). Mandry following up a first-round 69 (-2) with a 71 (E) in the second and another 71 (E) in the third. Mandry's first-round score matched his career best. Senior Ben Sattler (Liberty Township, Ohio) carded rounds of 75 (+4), 67 (-4) and 70 (-1) to finish with a career-best 212 (-1). His second-round score marked the lowest single-round score of his collegiate career.

Sophomore Tanner Johnson (Venetia, Pa.) posted round scores of 73 (+2), 71 (E) and 72 (+1) to tie for 30th with a career-best 216 (+3).

Sophomore Austin Dyson (Dublin, Ohio) finished in a tie for 83rd with a 229 (+16) after recording rounds of 76 (+5), 80 (+9) and 73 (+2).

Ohio's 2019 spring schedule will commence Feb. 11-12 at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play, which will be held at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Fla.
