ATHENS, Ohio -- Thirtieth year head coach Bob Cooley announced the Ohio men's golf team's 2018 spring schedule on Friday (Jan. 19).
Driven by young talent and new energy, the Bobcats have a lot to look forward to and have something to prove in 2018.
The Bobcats begin their spring slate with the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play (Feb. 12-13) at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Fla. Formerly known as the Mid-American Match Play, the event was renamed in 2015 in honor of Earl Yestingsmeier, who passed away in January 2014 at age 80. Yestingsmeier spent 36 seasons leading the Ball State men's golf program, including 31 in a dual role as sports information on director and golf coach. Ohio has competed in the match play event each of the past five seasons.
Ohio then visits Savannah, Ga., for The Invitational at Savannah Harbor (Feb. 17-18) at The Club at Savannah Harbor. This is the second-straight year the team will make the trip to a great golf course in one of America's iconic cities.
The Bobcats will then make their way to the 'Home of American Golf,' Pinehurst, N.C., to play in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate (March 9-11). This tournament will be played on course No. 8 and will be an opportunity for the team to compete at one of the most historical venues in all of golf.
Ohio continues its impressive stretch of venues at the Greenbrier Intercollegiate (April 9-10), where it will compete at The Old White TPC course in White Sulfur Springs, W.Va. This site hosts the Greenbrier Invitational, a tournament on the PGA Tour's annual schedule.
Rounding out the regular season slate is the Stitch Intercollegiate (April 13-15), hosted by North Carolina State at MacGregor Downs Country Club in Cary, N.C.
The postseason will begin with the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships, (April 27-29). The conference tournament will be hosted by Ball State at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind.
The 2018 NCAA Championship Regionals will be held May 15-17 at six sites -- Lonnie Poole Golf Course (Raleigh, N.C.), Traditions Club (Bryan, Texas), Scarlet Course/OSU Golf Course (Columbus, Ohio), Reunion Resort (Kissimmee, Fla.), Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club (Norman, Okla.) and The Reserve at Spanos Park (Stockton, Calif.).
The 2018 NCAA Championship runs May 25-30 and will be held at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla. Oklahoma is the defending national champion.
