AKRON, Ohio -- The Ohio men's golf team tied George Mason for 10th place at The Firestone Invitational, combining for a team total score of 895 (+31) after tallying a final-round 305 (+17) on Tuesday (Oct. 3) at Firestone Country Club's North Course.
On Monday (Oct. 2), the Bobcats improved on a first-round 296 (+8) with a second-round 294 (+6).
Illinois State captured The Firestone Invitational title with a combined team total of 859 (-5). The Redbirds tallied identical round scores of 282 (-6) on Monday, then shot a final-round 295 (+7) on Tuesday
Freshman Zach Crawford (Vandalia, Ohio) turned in his first top-five finish of his Bobcat career, tying for fourth with a 215 (-1). He carded a 75 (+3) in the final round on Tuesday after shooting rounds of 67 (-5) and 73 (+1) on Monday.
Senior Brady Bohl (Dublin, Ohio) finished in a tie for 16th with a 219 (+3). He followed up round scores of 72 (E) and 71 (-1) Monday with a final-round 76 (+4) on Tuesday. Bohl tied for third in the field with 37 pars.
Junior Ben Sattler (Liberty Township, Ohio) tied for 55th with a 228 (+12). After shooting rounds of 79 (+7) and 74 (+2) on Monday, he posted a 75 (+3) in the final round on Tuesday.
Senior Grant Engel (Pittsburgh, Pa.) tallied a 235 (+19) in his first tournament of the 2017-18 season to tie for 75th. He carded rounds of 78 (+6) and 76 (+4) on Monday, then shot a 79 (+7) in final-round action on Tuesday.
Redshirt senior Tom Nettles (McMurray, Pa.) tied for 84th with a 241 (+25), shooting a 79 (+7) in the final round on Tuesday. He improved on a first-round 85 (+13) with a second-round 77 (+5) on Monday.
Cincinnati junior Austin Squires took home medalist honors at The Firestone Invitational with a 208 (-8). After posting a first-round score of 71 (-1) and a second-round score of 65 (-7), he tallied a 72 (E) in the final round to clinch the tournament victory.
Ohio's penultimate tournament of the 2017 fall slate will take it to the Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, W. Va., next week (Oct. 9-10), where the Bobcats will compete in The Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational.
