ATHENS -- The Ohio field hockey team (7-5, 4-1) continued their MAC schedule with a 3-0 win over Ball State at Pruitt Field on Friday, Oct. 18.
The Bobcats returned home from a 1-1 road trip in the state of Michigan, dropping a heartbreaker to Michigan State, 1-0, and routing Central Michigan, 6-1. With a win, Ohio would improve to 4-1 in the MAC, and set up a crucial match against Miami next weekend.
Redshirt sophomore Tayla Hansen (Levin, New Zealand), in her first start of the season, got the scoring started when she pushed her third goal of the season past Ball State's goalkeeper, assisted by junior Emma Spinetto (Louisville, Ky.). In the second period, the defense shined for both squads, allowing only one shot on goal apiece for each team, sending the Bobcats into half with the 1-0 advantage.
In the third period Ohio put four shots towards the net, with junior Jillian Shive (Lebanon, Ohio) finding the back of the cage with just one-minute left in the third. This goal was her third of the season and first on the day.

Then, with only 32 seconds gone in the fourth, Ohio gained an early opportunity, ending with Shive chipping home her second of the day, assisted by senior Brittany Keen (Perth, Western Australia). Redshirt senior Sophia Boothby (Spotsylvania, Va.) saved the only two shots sent her way today, emphasizing an impressive defensive performance by Ohio in the 3-0 shutout.
Ohio outshot the Cardinals 19-3 overall, while also winning the penalty corner battle, 7-2.
OU returns home on Sunday, Oct. 20 to take on the Indiana Hoosiers at Pruitt Field. First touch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
