ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio Field Hockey (5-4, 2-1) falls to Ohio State (6-4, 1-2), 6-1.
The Bobcats welcomed the Buckeyes to Pruitt Field on Sunday, Oct. 6 after beating conference-rival Longwood the day before.
Ohio neutralized Ohio State's attack in the first quarter, holding the Buckeyes scoreless on just three shots. In the second quarter, Ohio State tallied their first goal of the game, scored by Mackenzie Allessie.
In the third quarter, both teams were scoreless again, with both the Bobcats and Buckeyes tallying three shots-a-piece. At this point in the game, redshirt senior Sophia Boothby (Spotsylvania, Va.) made four saves on five Ohio State shots.
In the fourth quarter, Ohio State tallied five goals, extending their lead to 6-0. Then, with 20 seconds left in the match, redshirt senior Kendall Ballard (Charlottesville, Va.) put one past the Ohio State goalkeeper for her fifth goal of the season.
Overall, the Buckeyes narrowly won the penalty corner battle, 6-4. Ohio State also pressure the goalkeeper quite a bit, outshooting Ohio 17-6.
The Bobcats hit the road next weekend to take on #24 Michigan State (5-5, 0-3) on Friday, Oct. 11, before traveling to Mount Pleasant, Mi. to take on Central Michigan (2-9, 0-3)
