MAC Release

CLEVELAND -- Ohio baseball senior right-handed starting pitcher Tom Colletti (Wheaton, Ill.) has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday (May 8).

Colletti earns weekly conference honors for the first time in his career. Ohio has received four MAC East Division Pitcher of the Week nods this season. Redshirt junior right-hander Jake Roehn (Sandwich, Ill.) was named MAC East Division Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 27 while junior southpaw Butch Baird (Big Prairie, Ohio) earned honors on March 6 and senior right-hander Jake Rudnicki (Toledo, Ohio) did so on April 24. The Bobcats have also garnered five MAC East Division Player of the Week selections this year. Senior outfielder Spencer Ibarra (Fort Collins, Colo.) was named MAC East Division Player of the Week on both March 20 and April 4 while redshirt junior infielder/right-handed pitcher Michael Klein (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) garnered recognition on Feb. 20 and sophomore infielder Rudy Rott (Holmen, Wis.) received recognition on both April 17 and May 8.

Colletti put together a masterful performance on the mound to help the Ohio baseball team (25-25, 11-10 MAC) secure a 3-0 shutout of Mid-American Conference East Division rival Buffalo (16-31, 8-13 MAC) on Sunday (May 14) at Audubon Field in Amherst, N.Y. The Bobcats achieved their second conference series sweep of the 2017 season with the win. Ohio took the Friday (May 12) series opener from the Bulls, 5-3, and clinched their fourth MAC series win of the 2017 season thanks to a 12-1 rout on Saturday (May 13). With the sweep of Buffalo, Ohio also clinched a berth in the double elimination 2017 MAC Championship, which will be held May 24-28 at Sprenger Stadium in Avon, Ohio. Colletti tossed six scoreless frames in Sunday's shutout, fanning six while allowing just three hits and two walks. He earned the win on the mound to improve to 3-2 on the year.

Colletti has made 24 appearances on the mound in 2017, which is tied for the team lead, and has struck out 42 over 47.0 innings of work.

Ohio closes the 2017 regular season with a three-game showdown against MAC East Division rival Kent State this weekend Bob Wren Stadium. The series opens with a Thursday (May 18) matchup at 6 p.m. ET. The Friday (May 19) contest is scheduled to get underway at 3 p.m. ET. The Senior Day season finale is scheduled for a 1 p.m. ET start on Saturday (May 20). 'Voice of the Bobcats' Russ Eisenstein will have the call of all three games on WOUB 1340 AM and online on OhioBobcats.com via Stretch Internet.
