2020 Baseball Schedule

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio baseball program released its 53-game 2020 schedule, eighth-year head coach Rob Smith announced on Wednesday (Oct. 30).

"Our nonconference schedule will be a challenge for us," head coach Rob Smith said. "We have some quality teams that we will play on the road. It will be a good test for us early on."

The 2020 slate will feature 22 home games at Bob Wren Stadium. Nonconference opponents that will play on the Nicholson Family Turf will include Siena, Morehead State, Evansville and Youngstown State. Ohio will play 24 Mid-American Conference games this season.

Ohio will open the season with 14 games on the road. The Bobcats will open at Atlantic Sun opponent North Alabama (Feb. 14-16) for four game. The Bobcats will then head to Florence, S.C. to take on St. Louis (Feb. 21-23) on a neutral field. OU will then face Southeast Missouri State (Feb. 28 – March 1) for a four game series on the road. The Bobcats will face Marist, Wagner then the host East Tennessee State in Johnson City, Tenn. to wrap up the road trip.

The Bobcats will hold their home opener against local rival Marshall (March 10). Ohio's first weekend series at Bob Wren Stadium is a four-game series against Siena (March 13-15). Morehead State (March 18) and Ohio will face off for the first time of the season to wrap up the six-game home stand.

MAC play will start on the road at Bowling Green (March 20-22). MAC road opponents in 2020 include Miami (April 3-5), Kent State (May 1-3) and Toledo (May 14-16). In MAC play, Ohio will welcome Eastern Michigan (March 27-29), Western Michigan (April 17-19), Akron (April 24-26) and Northern Illinois (May 8-10).

"The MAC schedule has changed again and we're back to an unbalanced scheduling situation with us not playing Ball State or Central Michigan this year," Smith added. "It will be interesting to see how the new unbalanced schedule effects the final standings."

Ohio will play a late nonconference series with Evansville (April 10-12) at Bob Wren Stadium. Ohio will also take on Youngstown State (April 7) in a midweek game. During MAC play, Ohio will have midweek contests at Marshall (March 24, May 12), at YSU (April 21) and at Ohio State (May 5).

The MAC Tournament will be held May 22-26 at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio. The winner receives the league's automatic bid to the 2020 NCAA Championship. 

Ohio finished the 2019 season 20-34 and 12-14 in the league and earned the No. 6 seed in the MAC Tournament. Ohio won two games in the MAC Tournament, including a 17-inning elimination game over Miami, 6-5. The game was the longest in MAC Tournament history. Senior first baseman Rudy Rott was a Division I Third-team All-American and was drafted in the ninth round by the Philadelphia Phillies.
