Ohio Baseball Falls in Final Home Game to Marshall

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio Baseball team (16-31, 10-13 MAC) dropped the final home game of the season (25-26, 11-15 CUSA), 10-7, at Bob Wren Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Senior INF Rudy Rott (Holmen, Wis.) drove home five runs and was 3-for-5 with two doubles and a single. 

Freshman INF Zyon Avery (Indianapolis, Ind.) and redshirt senior OF Connor McMann (Flower Mound, Texas) each had one RBI. Avery reached three times with two singles and a walk while McMann had a double and scored three runs.

Marshall took the lead in the top of the second with a home run from Rey Pastrana to right field.

The Thundering Herd scored a run in top of the third when MU advanced home on a caught stealing.

Ohio punched back in the bottom of the third inning. Rott put a double down the right field line that scored McMann and Avery to tie the game.

The Bobcats took the lead in the bottom of the fourth with four runs. After sophomore OF Sebastian Fabik (Lebanon, Ohio) walked, Avery tripled to right field to bring him home. McMann then ripped a double to left field to bring home McMann. Rott then ripped his second double of the day to score Ryan Strittmather (Vermillion, Ohio) and McMann. Strittmather reached on a walk.

Marshall added three in the top of the fifth. A Geordon Blanton sacrifice fly scored one before Shane Hanon hit a two run home run to left field.

Rott had his fifth RBI of the day with a single up the middle that scored McMann, who reached on a walk, and put Ohio up 7-5.

Marshall took the lead in the seventh with four runs and tacked on a run in the eighth for the final score of 10-7.

Sophomore RHP Chace Harris (New Marshfield, Ohio) fell to 0-2 after allowing four earned runs in 0.1 innings.

Freshman Braxton Kelly (Ulysses, Ky.) finished the game, tossing 2.1 innings and did not allow an earned run. Kelly fanned a career-high five batters.

Freshman LHP Joe Rock (Aliquippa, Pa.) got the start and pitched 1.0 innings and did not allow a run.

Freshman RHP Eamon Horwedel (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Freshman LHP Colin Sells (Lancaster, Ohio) each pitched 1.0 inning in the second and third and allowed one earned run each.

Junior LHP Nick Byrnes (Cincinnati, Ohio) pitched 1.2 innings and allowed two earned runs while striking out two batters. Redshirt freshman Nick Kamrada (Grand Ledge, Mich.) tossed 1.1 innings and fanned one batter while allowing on earned run.

Redshirt junior LHP Tony Iero struck out the only batter he faced.

Ohio will wrap up the regular season against Western Michigan, beginning on Thursday. The winner of the series will advance to the MAC Tournament.
