ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (15-27, 9-10 MAC) dropped the series opener to Miami (33-13, 13-6 MAC), 5-1, on Friday night at Bob Wren Stadium.
Five Bobcats – Sophomore INF Aaron Levy (Cincinnati, Ohio), sophomore INF Treyben Funderburg (Beavercreek, Ohio), senior INF Rudy Rott (Holmen, Wis.), redshirt sophomore INF Michael Richardson (Cambridge, Md.) and redshirt junior INF Ryan Sargent (Algonquin, Ill.) - all had base hits in the game. Richardson also stole a base.
Miami scored first in the bottom of the second with a single from MacKay Williams to right field brought home Kyle Winkler.
Ohio tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, when junior C Tanner Piechnick (Canonsburg, Pa.) scored on a two-out throwing error from the third baseman. Ohio loaded the bases with two outs but was unable to score anymore.
Miami retook the lead in the top of the fifth when Charlie Harrigan hit a double down the left field line that scored one.
The Redhawks added a run in the eighth with a home run to left field by Landon Stephens to go up 4-1.
MU scored in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice bunt from Parker Massman to take a 5-1 lead.
Sophomore RHP Edward Kutt IV (Westlake, Calif.) was given the loss and fell to 3-3 this season. Kutt IV struck out seven batters and allowed four earned runs.
Senior RHP Nick Kamrada (Grand Ledge, Mich.) tossed 0.2 innings and allowed one earned run.
Ohio will continue the series against Miami tomorrow at 3 p.m.
