ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio men's basketball is back in the Convo this week, including a nationally televised matchup Friday night against Akron, while women's basketball is back on Saturday. The Ohio men's basketball team (10-9, 4-3 MAC) is back in Athens for two games this week. The week begins on Tuesday, Jan. 20 when Ohio hosts Northern Illinois (6-11, 2-4 MAC) for the final time as the member of the MAC. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET inside the Convocation Center and can be seen on ESPN+. This game is the Battle of the Classes, check Ohio social media accounts to see what color to wear and battle it out to see which class is supreme. Ohio is back on the court on Friday, jan. 23 when the Bobcats host Akron (14-4, 5-1 MAC). Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. ET inside the Convo and can be seen nationally on ESPNU. Friday is the Green and White Game! General fans are encouraged to wear green, while students are asked to wear white. The first 500 students will get a free white t-shirt courtesy of Prokos Rentals and Athens Central Hotel.
The Bobcats' matchup can also be heard on the Ohio Sports Network from Learfield, presented by Holzer Health System. Jason Toy begins his second season on the mic for the Bobcats and will be joined by veteran and will be joined by veteran college basketball analyst Dave Cecutti. WXTQ (Power 105) in Athens returns as the 11-station net- work's flagship and can be heard on the Varsity Network App.
Ohio is coming off a tough 0-2 week that saw the Bobcats fal to Toledo and Ball State on the road. Senior guard Jackson Paveletzke led Ohio this past week on the court. Overall, averaged 21.0 points a game, while grabbing 2.5 rebounds and dishing out 5.0 assists a game. Overall, he went 17-of-35 (.486) from the field, 3-of-9 (.333) from three and 5-of-7 from the line (.714) while playing 37.4 minutes a game. Senior forward Aidan Hadaway averaged 19.0 points and 5.5 rebounds, while redshirt junior guard Javan Simmons added 17.0 points and 6.0 rebounds a game.
Northern Illinois is currently 6-11 overall and 2-4 in MAC play and are coming off a two-point win at home over UMass on Saturday. Makhai Valentine leads NIU with 14.3 points and 5.6 rebounds, while shooting 42.4 percent from the field and 85.5 percent from the line, while Dylan Ducommun adds 12.1 points, while shooting 36.4 percent from the field, with Gustav Winther averages 9.1 points and 5.3 rebounds.
Akron is currently 14-4 overall and 5-1 in MAC play abd are coming off a 104-89 win over Western Michigan on Saturday and will face off with Buffalo on the road on Tuesday before coming to Athens. Tavari Johnson leads the Zips with 20.4 points and 5.7 assists a game, while shooting 53.8 percent from teh field, 38.7 percent from three and 90.0 percent from the line. Amani Lyles adds 15.4 points and 7.1 rebounds a game, while shooting 60.6 percent from the field, while Shammah Scott adds 13.6 points and is shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 43.9 percent from three.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The Ohio women's basketball team (11-5, 5-1 MAC) are back in action for two more MAC matchups this week starting on Wednesday, Jan. 21 when the Bobcats head to Bowling Green, Ohio to take on Bowling Green (10-7, 3-3 MAC). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET inside the Stroh Center and can be seen on ESPN+. Ohio is back in Athens on Saturday, Jan. 24 when the Bobcats host Toledo (8-7, 3-2 MAC). Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. ET inside the Convocation Center and can be seen on ESPN+. Saturday's game is a Green Out, so wear your green and support the Bobcats!
Ohio is coming off a 1-1 week this week, falling to Kent State on the road before bouncing back to defeat Northern Illinois in the Convo on Saturday, This week, redshirt sophomore Bella Ranallo averaged 12.0 points, while shooting 37.5 percent from the field and 81.8 percent from the line, while junior Bailey Tabeling added 12.0 points and 3.0 rebounds, while shooting 44.4 percent from the field.
Bowling Green is currently 10-7 overall and 3-3 in MAC play and are coming off a 51-49 loss at home against Miami on Saturday. Paige Kohler averages 14.1 points a game, while averaging 3.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. She also shooting 34.8 percent from the field and 75.0 percent from the line. Johnea Donahue adds 11.9 points and 5.6 rebounds a game, while shooting 42.1 percent from the field, while Kaia Woods averages 8.2 points and is shooting 40.9 percent from three.
Toledo is currently 8-7 overall and 3-2 in MAC play and are coming off a 70-49 win against NIU on Jan. 14. The Rockets will take on Eastern Michigan on Tuesday night on the road before heading to Athens on Saturday. Kendall Carruthers averages 13.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, while shooting 45.6 percent from the field. Faith Fedd-Robinson adds 11.6 points and 5.5 rebounds a game, while shooting 50.7 percent from the field and 73.8 percent from the line.
TRACK AND FIELD

The Ohio outdoor track and field team is back in action this weekend when they head to Ashland, Ohio Saturday, Jan. 24 to compete in the 2026 Ashland Invitational. The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m. ET inside the Niss Athletic Center and can be streamed on FloCollege.
Ohio is coming off record breaking performances at the Indiana Invitaional last weekend in Bloomington, Ind. On Saturday, Junior Emilee Baumann broke her own school record in the pole vault. Baumann broke the indoor pole vault record with a personal-best mark of 3.75 meters (12-3.50). The junior previous set the indoor record during the 2024-25 indoor season. Baumann maintains her spot as school record holder for both the indoor and outdoor pole vault.
Junior Ellie Greenwell, was also a top performer for Ohio as she recorded the second-fastest indoor mile time in program history. Greenwell placed third in the women's mile with a personal-best time of 4:48.02. Sophomores Kaitlyn Stewart and Mairin O'Brien also recorded PR's in the event. Stewart placed sixth (4:51.82, PR) and O'Brien place 10th (5:00.02, PR). Junior Gracie Smith kicked off the day for Ohio with the pentathlon. Smith finished with a score of 2,925 points. Smith won the shot put with a mark of 9.45 meters (4-4.75). She also placed second in the 800m with a time of 2:36.29.
On Friday, Ohio's distance medley relay team, comprised of sophomore Mairin O'Brien, sophomore Ava Kincaid, sophomore Jaclyn Garvey and senior Sara Dougman, placed third with a time of 11:57.20.
WRESTLING

The Ohio wrestling team (4-2, 1-1 MAC) is back in action for another MAC dual on Friday, Jan. 23 when the Bobcats head to DeKalb, Ill, to take on Northern Illinois (5-5, 1-0 MAC). The dual is set to begin at 8 p.m. ET inside Victor E. Court and can be seen on ESPN+.
The Bobcats are coming off a home dual loss to SIUE last Friday in Athens. Redshirt senior Zayne Lehman was a standout performer for the Bobcats at 197 lbs, recording three takedowns of SIUE's Nick Nosler and earning a bonus point for 2:42 of riding time on his way to a 11-0 major decision victory. At 157 lbs, Derek Raike was the first wrestler to get the Bobcats on the board with a 4-1 decision victory. Raike fought back from an early 1-0 second period deficit to record a takedown, securing a 4-1 lead that he would not relinquish. At 174 lbs, redshirt senior Garrett Thompson started off strong recording a quick takedown and nearfall to jump to a 7-0 lead in the first period. Thompson recorded an escape and additional takedown in the second period, and earned a bonus point from 2:36 of riding time on his way to a 13-3 major decision victory.
NIU is currently 5-5 overall and 1-0 in MAC duals. The Huskies are coming off a 19-14 home win over Central Michigan last Friday. The Huskies also have wins over Campbell and American.
