In goal, senior Gwen Hershberger (Harrison City, Pa.) got the start, playing all 60 minutes, allowing nine goals and making four saves.

Cal opened the first quarter, putting pressure on the Ohio defense, drawing three-straight penalty corners before capitalizing on a penalty stroke to take a 1-0 lead five minutes into the match. Cal continued to keep up the pressure over the next five minutes, before Ohio drew their first penalty corner of the match. However, moments later, Cal would add on, taking a 2-0 lead after the first 15 minutes of play.

The second quarter was much of the same, with the Golden Bears holding possession. Ohio's best chance of the day came early in the quarter when Dikotla fired a breakaway shot at the cage but was saved to keep Ohio off the board. Cal then kept up the pressure before taking a 3-0 lead with two and half minutes to go, sending the game into the half with Ohio trailing, 3-0.

At the half, Cal outshot Ohio 13-1, with five on goal to the Bobcats' one. Cal also drew three penalty corners compared to Ohio's one.

Cal's offense exploded in the third quarter, scoring five goals to take an 8-0 lead headed into the final frame. Cal added on early in the fourth quarter. Moments later, Cole recorded an attempt for the Bobcats, but it went wide of the cage. The Bobcats continued to battle down the stretch, with Nhamoinesu recording a shot, but the Golden Bears were able to register a defensive save, helping secure the 9-0 victory for Cal.

Up next, the Bobcats head to Boone, N.C. on Friday, Sept. 19 to open Mid-American Conference play against App State. Game time is set for 3 p.m. ET and can be seen on YouTube.
