Louisville, Ky. – Ohio Field Hockey (0-1) opened the 2025 season on Saturday afternoon (Aug. 30), falling to Michigan State (1-1), 5-0, in Louisville, K.y.

Overall, the Bobcats recorded 13 shots, with five on goal, while the Spartans added 19 shots with 13 on goal.

Individually, freshman
Tiana Nhamoinesu (Thirsk, North Yorkshire) led the Bobcats in her Ohio debut with four shots, followed by freshman
Adi Geer (Newport, Pa.) with three. Â

In the cage, sophomore
Ash Stephenson (Kingston Upon Hull, England) recorded 12 saves against the Spartans. Â Â

MSU came out aggressive early and took a 3-0 lead after one quarter of play. The second quarter started with Ohio's first shot on goal of the game from Nhamoinesu. Nhamoinesu recorded three of the Bobcats' five shots in the first half. Michigan State notched one more goal early in the second quarter to take a 4-0 lead into the halftime break.

The Bobcats put pressure on early in the third quarter with multiple shots on Michigan State and a penalty corner in the first five minutes of play. The Spartans quickly answered with a goal to take a 5-0 lead into the fourth quarter.

Ohio forced multiple saves from Michigan State early in the fourth quarter, but was stymied by the Spartan defense for the rest of the period, securing the victory for Michigan State.
