ATHENS, Ohio— Ohio football alumnus Coleman Owen signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent today (April 26).
Â
Owen (Gilbert, Ariz.) quickly became an integral part of Ohio's program and was voted one of five team captains prior and starting in all 14 games for the Bobcats. One season was all it took for Owen to etch his name in the Ohio record book: he became the third Bobcat to tally 1,000 receiving yards in a season during Ohio's Black Friday game against the Ball State Cardinals (Nov. 29). Owen joined LaVon Brazill and Donte' Foster in this elite club, who reached that benchmark in 2011 and 2013, respectively. He went on to set the program record for single-season receiving yards (1,245) during the Bobcats' 2024 StaffDNA Cure Bowl victory.Â
Â
Owen finished the season with 78 catches and eight receiving touchdowns, averaging 16 yards per catch and 88.9 receiving yards per game. Additionally, he returned 17 punts for 132 yards, highlighted by a 61-yard return for a touchdown against Kent State (Nov. 6). His performance earned him All-MAC First Team Offense recognition, Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week accolades once (Oct. 28) and Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll (Oct. 29) recognition.Â
Â
Prior to Ohio, Owen appeared in 39 games at Northern Arizona. He scored 18 touchdowns over his NAU career, including one on an 85-yard punt return in 2023. Owen is well-decorated from his time at NAU, earning 2022 and 2023 Second Team All-Big Sky recognition, 2022 Phil Steele All-Big Sky and 2021 Phil Steele Freshman All-American recognition. As impressive off the field as he is on, Owen was named 2022-23 NAU Top-Scholar Athlete and was a Big Sky All-Academic selection in 2020, 2021 and 2022.Â
