ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio women's basketball team (6-21, 4-12 MAC) were defeated by Miami (18-9, 10-6 MAC) on senior night in the Convocation Center on March 1.
Sophomore
Bailey Tabeling (Seymour, Ind.) led the Bobcats in scoring with 17 points. Tabeling also contributed five rebounds. Freshman
Danni Scully (Park Ridge, Ill.) recorded 10 points and a career-high eight rebounds.Senior
Kennedi Watkins (Ballwin, Mo.) pulled her weight with eight points for the Bobcats accompanied by one rebound.
The first period began with RedHawk possession, but a quick steal made by senior
Kate Dennis (Rockford, Ill.) helped Ohio earn possession of the ball. The first four points for Ohio were free throws made by Tabeling and Watkins. Ohio's first field goal came from Scully with 3:13 on the clock, giving Ohio a one-point lead. Tabeling quickly made a three-point basket, increasing the Bobcats' lead to three points. The two teams traded baskets and were tied at 14-14 at the end of the first quarter.
Miami scored on its first possession of the second quarter, but Ohio answered back with a layup by Watkins. The RedHawks made several baskets in a row before graduate student
Aliah McWhorter (Cincinnati, Ohio) cut their lead to one point with a three pointer at 6:02 left on the clock. A three-point scoring play by Tabeling helped the Bobcats regain the lead at the end of the second quarter. Heading into the locker room, Ohio led Miami 27-25.
The third quarter was dominated by the RedHawks. Miami outscored Ohio 21-13 throughout the quarter and was able to earn its first significant lead of the game.
In the the final 10 minutes of play, Ohio fought hard to make up for its performance in the third quarter. Despite their efforts, the Bobcats were unable to close in on the RedHawks' lead. Ultimately, Miami came out on top with a 62-53 win over Ohio.
The Bobcats will be back in action against Western Michigan on Wednesday, March 5 in The Convo. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET and this game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
