ATHENS, Ohio – It's MAC Championship season! Cross country heads to Muncie, Ind. to battle for a championship, while soccer begins its quest to repeat. Check out everything that's ahead for Ohio Athletics in this week's Paw Prints.
CROSS COUNTRY

The men's and women's cross country teams head to Muncie, Ind. to battle for a championship at the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championships on Nov. 1. The event hosted by Ball State at the Ball State Cross country Course will see the women's 6k race begin at 11 a.m., with the men's 8k set to begin at 12 p.m. ET.
The Bobcats look to build on last year's championship, which saw the women's team place third and the men's team finishing in seventh.
Ohio last competed Oct. 18 at the Bradley Pink Invite. Both teams represented Ohio well with the women placing fifth out of 32 teams and the men finishing 12thout of 29 teams. Ohio's top performers of the day were junior Leila Boussedra (Worthington, Ohio) and sophomore Andrew Bracken (Westerville, Ohio). Boussedra placed 15th out of 259 runners in the women's red 6k race with a time of 20:42.93. Bracken placed 24th out of 265 runners in the men's red 8k race with a personal-best time of 24:19.32.

The Ohio soccer team (9-3-4, 4-2-3 MAC) wraps up the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 31 when the Bobcats head to Oxford, Ohio to take on Miami (7-4-6, 3-3-4 MAC) in the 'Battle of the Bricks.' First touch is set for 3 p.m. at Bobby Kraming Field.
At the conclusion of all the MAC matchups on Thursday, the 2024 MAC Championship Bracket will be complete. If Ohio places in the top two, they will receive a bye to the semifinals. If they place third-sixth, the will compete in the MAC Quarterfinals on Sunday, Nov. 3 at a campus site. If Ohio finished third or fourth, the quarterfinals will take place in Athens.
Ohio is coming off a 1-1 week after falling to Buffalo on Thursday and defeating Central Michigan on Sunday, 3-0, in Athens. Individually, junior Ella Deevers (Streetsboro, Ohio) and sophomore Anna Burchett (Prestonburg, Ky.) recorded two shots on goal each, followed by sophomore Jaimason Brooker (Powell, Ohio) who recorded two shots on goal, with both shots resulting in points for the Bobcats. Brooker's second goal was assisted by graduate student Aubrey Rea (Akron, Ohio), who also recorded a shot on goal for Ohio.
In goal, junior Celeste Sloma, (Columbus, Ohio) played all 90 minutes, and did not allow a goal, earning her ninth shutout of the season, while making two saves.
Miami is coming off a 1-0-1 week, defeating Central Michigan on Thursday, before holding Buffalo to a draw on Sunday in Oxford.

The Ohio volleyball team (10-12, 6-5 MAC) is back in Athens for two matches this week. Ohio returns to the court on Friday, Nov. 1 when they host Central Michigan (18-5, 9-2 MAC). First serve is set for 6 p.m. inside the Convocation Center. The two teams are back in action Saturday afternoon on Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. Both matches can be seen on ESPN+.
Ohio is coming off a 2-1 week that saw Ohio defeat Kent State and Eastern Michigan in four sets on Tuesday and Friday, before falling to the Eagles in five sets on Saturday. On Friday in Ypsilanti, Junior Anna Kharchynska (Kyiv, Ukraine) led the team with 18 kills and 19.0 points. Three other Bobcats finished with double figure kills and points. Sophomore Kam Hunt (Sylvania, Ohio) tallied 14 kills and 15.0 points, sophomore Olivia Gardner (Macomb, Mich.) recorded 12 kills and 12.5 points and graduate student Elizabeth Hoerlein (Mason, Ohio) tallied 10 kills and 12.0 points. Hoerlein also recorded a .444 hitting percentage.
Ohio's setters, freshman Bryn Janke (Westfield, Wis.) and junior Chariti McKeller (Toledo, Ohio) combined for 51 assists. Janke also tallied a career-high 11 digs.
CMU is coming off a weekend sweep of Buffalo at home, downing the Bulls in four sets on Friday and five sets on Saturday.
FIELD HOCKEY

The Ohio field hockey team (6-10, 2-5 MAC) wraps up the regular season in Athens on Friday, Nov. 1 when Ohio hosts MAC opponent Central Michigan (3-12, 0-7 MAC) in a pivotal match for MAC standings. First touch is set for 2 p.m. at Pruitt Field and can be seen on ESPN+. The match will also serve as Senior Day for the Bobcats, with a ceremony pregame to honor the senior's time in the Green and White.
Ohio is coming off a 1-1 week, with Ohio falling in overtime on Friday in Mucnie, before defeating Davidson, 2-1, in Athens on Sunday. Junior Anouk Plaehn (Hanover, Germany) scored one goal on two shots, while freshman Addy Basile (Lewes, Del.) added one goal on one shot.
Central Michigan enters the matchup with Ohio with a 3-12 overall record and an 0-7 mark in MAC play. CMU last played on Ict. 25, falling to Miami at home.
WRESTLING

The Ohio wrestling team opens the 2024-25 season on Friday, Nov. 1 at the 2024 Wisconsin Wrestling Showcase when they take on Big Ten opponent Wisconsin. The event hosted bu UW La Crosse will take place in La Crosse, Wis. and will begin at 8 p.m. ET in Mitchell Hall.
Ohio concluded last season at the 2024 NCAA Championships when Ohio placed 25th overall, their best finish since 1998. Peyten Kellar (Cutler, Ohio) finished fifth overall and earned All-American status, Ohio's best individual finish since 2005. Garrett Thompson (Murrysville, Pa.) and Jordan Greer (Avon, Ohio) also earned invites to last year' championship.
