NORMAL, Ill. – The Ohio swim and dive team returned to action on Friday evening (pct. 18) for the first day of a two-day road dual meet against Illinois State. Friday saw the Bobcats compete in seven events, taking an 89-42 lead into day two.
The first event of the day was the 3-meter dive, with sophomore
Astrid Pichardo (Guanajuato, Mexico) placing second with a score of 277.88, while senior
Sophie Cooper (Milford, Ohio) placed third with a score of 227.78.
In the 50-yard butterfly, the Bobcats took the top three spots. Sophomore
Zita Szoke (Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary) placed first in 24.78, followed by freshman
Jordan Claypoole (Parkersburg, W. Va.) in second (25.05) and senior
Raphaelle Anglade (Toulouse, France) in third with a time of 25.55.
In the 50-yard backstroke, junior
Allison Schrank (Blaine, Minn.) placed first with a time of 26.28. Freshman
Leah Guess (Hartville, Ohio) placed third in 27.00, while freshman
Sofia Matern (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished fourth in 27.19.
Ohio took the top three spots in the 50-yard breaststroke, with junior
Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio) placing first in 29.00. Senior
Julia Strine (Shippensburg, Pa.) placed second (29.74), while senior
Edie Sawyer (Cranberry Township, Pa.) finished third in 30.07.
In the 50 free, sophomore
Katie Buroker (Zionsville, Ind.) placed second in 24.53, while junior
Peyton Binns (Hudson, Ohio) finished third with a time of 25.20.
In the 100-yard IM, Zoke was back in action, placing first with a time of 55.97, while Anglade finished second (58.68), junior
Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) finished third in 59.34.
In the final event of the night, the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Ohio 'A' squad of Claypoole, Buroker, Szoke and graduate student
Caroline Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa.) placed first with a time of 1:34.91.
The Bobcats are back in action for day two of the meet on Saturday, Oct. 19. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET.
