Ohio Women's Basketball Falls at Kent State

KENT, Ohio – The Ohio women's basketball team (4-8, 1-1 MAC) fell at Kent State (8-4, 2-0 MAC) 92-63 on Saturday, Jan. 6.
 
Redshirt junior Madi Mace (Parkersburg, W. Va.) led the team with a season-best 16 points in addition to four rebounds and three steals. Freshman Monica Williams (Indianapolis, Ind.) netted a career-best 15 points; finishing five-for-six from the field, one-for-one from the arc and four-for-six from the line. Freshman Bailey Tabeling (Seymour, Ind.) contributed 10 points, four rebounds and three assists. Junior Kennedi Watkins (Ballwin, Mo.) tallied a team-high five rebounds.
 
After the first 10 minutes, Kent State had a 22-16 lead over Ohio. The Bobcats got off to a slow start, but Mace helped Ohio with a nine-point performance in the first quarter. Offensively, Ohio found opportunities under the basket and at the free throw line. Kent State out-rebounded Ohio 11-8 and scored nine points off turnovers.
 
Kent State maintained a 45-31 lead as the two teams headed into the locker room for halftime. Ohio's defense lagged, allowing the Golden Flashes to capitalize on a lot of opportunities on offense. Mace continued to be a force for the Bobcats on the court. She finished the first half with 14 points, four rebounds and a steal. Williams contributed six points while Watkins and Tabeling grabbed four and three rebounds, respectively.
 
At the end of the third quarter, Ohio trailed Kent State 68-44. Kent State went on to win the game, 90-63.
 
The Bobcats returns to the Convocation Center for a conference matchup with Northern Illinois on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
