ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio swimming and diving team returned to action Friday night (Jan. 5) for the first time since November, defeating Marshall, 183.5-116.5 inside the Ohio University Aquatics Center.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the Ohio 'A' team of sophomore
Allison Schrank (Blaine, Minn.), junior
Julia Strine (Shippensburg, Pa.), senior
Gabrielle Brust (Granville, Ohio) and senior
Caroline Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa.) placed first with a time of 1:44.33.
In the 1,000 free, junior
Gabrielle McKee (Gilbertsville, Pa.) placed first with a time of 10:19.45, while senior
Morgan Croaning (Carmel, Ind.) finished third in 10:29.03. The 200-yard free saw sophomore
Anna McGrath (Lewis Center, Ohio) earn a second-place finish with a time of 1:52.93, while freshman
Katie Buroker (Zionsville, Ind.) finished fourth in 1:56.74.
Schrank earned a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, touching in with a time of 58.18, while freshman
Melanie Schweikert (Maineville, Ohio) placed third in 58.61. Sophomore
Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio) earned a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.53, while Strine finished third in 1:04.17. Sophomore
Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) finished fourth (1:04.33), while junior
Edie Sawyer (Cranberry Township, Pa.) finished fifth (1:05.19).
Brust earned a win in the 200 fly with a time of 2:03.26, while freshman
Isabella Arbaugh (Ann Arbor, Mich.) placed third in 2:11.47 and junior
Raphaelle Anglade (Toulouse, France) finished fourth (2:13.06). In the 50 free, freshman
Zita Szoke (Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary) placed first with a time of 23.77. Senior
Meg Voigt (Bryan, Ohio) placed third with a time of 24.34 and
Alexandra Wayner (Savannah, Georgia) in fifth in 24.81.
In the 100 free, graduate student
McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio) placed first with a time of 52.01, while Dunigan finished third (52.80), Voigt fourth (53.04) and Buroker in fifth (53.55).
In the 200 back, Schweikert placed second with a time of 2:04.73, while senior
Riley Bunstine (Alexandria, Ohio) placed fourth (2:08.16) and sophomore
Morgan Brown (Roanoke, Ind.) in fifth (2:10.83). The 200-yard breaststroke saw DiBetta place first with a time of 2:17.34, while Ellsworth finished third in 2:19.28.
The 500 free saw McGrath pick up a first-place finish with a time of 5:05.82. Senior
Olivia Morlok (Columbus, Ind.) placed fourth in 5:14.90, while sophomore
Peyton Binns (Hudson, Ohio) finished fifth (5:15.20). Brust earned another win in the 100 fly, touching in with a time of 55.71, while Szoke placed second in 56.14. Senior
Peyton Farrell (Beavercreek, Ohio) finished fourth with an overall time of 58.30.
The 400-yard IM saw McKee pick up a first-place finish with a time of 4:25.82, with Ellsworth placing second with a time of 4:28.01.
In the final event of the evening, the 400-yard free relay, the Ohio 'A' team of Szoke, Voigt, Dunigan and Grau placed first with a time of 3:28.28.
In diving, the Bobcats opened the meet with the 3m dive, with freshman
Astrid Pichardo (Guanajuato, Mexico) placing second with a score of 264.53, while classmate
Savanna Bos (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished fourth with a score of 226.95. In the 1m event, Pichardo placed second with a score of 243.75, while Bos placed third (217.73).
Up next, the divers head to Buffalo, N.Y. Jan. 12-14 for the 2024 Buffalo Diving Invite. The Ohio swimmers are back in action Jan. 20 when they also head to Buffalo for a matchup with the Bulls. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m.
