ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio swimming and diving team (7-0) returned to action on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 27) for its final dual meet of the regular season, defeating Ball State (4-1), 219-81, inside the Ohio University Aquatics Center on Senior Day.
Prior to the meet, the Bobcats honored their 11 seniors: Gabby Brust,

In the 200-yard medley relay, the Ohio 'A' Team of senior
Gabrielle Brust (Granville, Ohio), sophomore
Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio), senior
Peyton Farrell (Beavercreek, Ohio) and senior
Caroline Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa) placed first with a time of 1:43.73.
In the 500-yard freestyle, the Bobcats took the top-four spots, with junior
Gabrielle McKee (Gilbertsville, Pa.) earned the victory, finishing with a time of 10:19.20. Senior
Morgan Croaning (Carmel, Ind.) finished second (10:25.54), followed by freshman
Ashley Sallows (Delaware, Ohio) in third (10:29.08) and senior
Olivia Morlok (Columbus, Ind.) in fourth with a time of 10:32.11).
Freshman
Zita Szoke (Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary) won the 200 free, touching in with a time of 1:51.07, while senior
Meg Voigt (Bryan, Ohio) placed second (1:54.63) and sophomore
Anna McGrath (Lewis Center, Ohio) finished third in 1:55.04. In the 100-yard backstroke,
Melanie Schweikert (Maineville, Ohio,) finished first with a time of 57.73, followed by senior
Riley Bunstine (Alexandria, Ohio) in second (57.81), while sophomore
Allison Schrank (Blaine, Minn.) placed fourth with a time of 58.25.
DiBetta picked up the victory in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:03.32, while junior
Julia Strine (Shippensburg, Pa.) finished third (1:04.34), junior
Edie Sawyer (Cranberry Township, Pa.) in fourth (1:05.42) and sophomore
Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) in fifth (1:05.58). In the 200-yard butterfly, Brust placed second with a time of 2:03.69, followed by McKee in third (2:05.53) and Farrell in fourth (2:07.83).
In the 50 free, graduate student
McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio) finished second with a time of 23.68, followed by Dunigan in third (24.05) and sophomore
Alexandra Wayner (Savannah, Ga.) in fourth with a time of 24.46. In the 100 free, Szoke placed first with a time of 50.52, while Grau placed third (52.33), Voigt in fourth (52.65) and Dunigan in fifth with a time of 53.18.
In the 200 back, Schweikert earned her second win of the day, touching in with a time of 2:04.17, while Bunstine finished third in 2:06.17. In the 200-yard breaststroke, DiBetta placed first, touching in with a time of 2:18.24. Ellsworth finished the event in third place (2:19.48), while Strine finished fourth (2:19.86) and Sawyer finished fifth (2:23.11).
In the 500 free, Croaning finished first with a time of 5:04.90, followed by McGrath in second (5:07.09) and Sallows in fourth (5:08.60). Brust won the 100 fly, finishing in 56.07, while Szoke finished second (56.40), Farrell in fourth (58.25) and Wayner in fifth (58.420. The 400-yard IM saw McKee picked up another victory, finishing the race in 4:25.89, followed by Elsworth in second (4:28.72) and Croaning in fourth (4:35.16).
In the final event of the day, the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Ohio 'A' team of, Szoke, Voigt, Dunigan and Grau placed first, securing a time of 1:34.20.
In the 3-meter dive, freshman
Astrid Pichardo (Guanajuato, Mexico) earned the win with a score of 291.30, earning her NCAA Zone cut in the event. Meanwhile, freshman
Savanna Bos (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished third with a score of 255.60. In the 1-meter event, Pichardo picked up her second win of the day with a score of, 275.33, followed by Bos in third (230.10) and junior
Sophie Cooper (Milford, Ohio) in fourth (228.75).
Up next, the Bobcats will have a few weeks off before returning to action Feb. 16-18 at the 2024 Ohio State Winter Invite in Columbus, Ohio.
