PAW PRINTS: The Week Ahead in Ohio Athletics

Athens, Ohio – After a solid week in Athens, swim and dive are back for Senior Day, while women's basketball is set for the 'Battle of the Bricks'. Check out everything that's ahead for Ohio Athletics in this week's Paw Prints. 

MEN'S BASKETBALL

The Ohio men's basketball team (9-9, 3-3 MAC) are back on the road this week after getting back on track. Ohio starts the week by heading to Akron, Ohio to take on the Zips (14-4, 6-0 MAC) on Tuesday, Jan. 23. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside the JAR and can be seen on ESPN+. Ohio will remain on the road when they head to Kent, Ohio to take on Kent State (9-9, 2-4 MAC) on Friday, Jan. 26. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. and can be seen nationally on CBS Sports Network. 

Ohio is coming off a 2-0 week that saw Ohio defeat Central and Eastern Michigan in Athens. Sophomore forward Aidan Hadaway is coming off a career night against the Eagles, scoring a career-high 20 points in Ohio's victory.

The Ohio women's basketball team (5-12, 2-4 MAC) is back for two more MAC matchups this week, starting on Wednesday, Jan. 24 when the Bobcats head to Mount Pleasant, Mich. to take on Central Michigan (2-13, 1-5 MAC). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside McGurik Arena and can be seen on ESPN+. The Bobcats return to Athens on Saturday, Jan. 27 when Ohio hosts the first round of the 'Battle of the Bricks' when they host Miami (4-12, 2-4 MAC). Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. inside the Convocation Center and can be seen on ESPN+. 

Ohio is coming off a 72-62 win over Eastern Michigan on Saturday. Freshmen Monica Williams and Laylay Fantroy led Ohio with 14 points each, while Williams grabbed eight boards and dished out four assists in the win. 

WRESTLING

Ohio wrestling (5-3) is back on the road this weekend when they head to Cleveland, Ohio on Friday, Jan. 26 to take on Cleveland State (3-7). The meet is set to begin at 7 p.m. inside Woodling Gymnasium.

The Bobcats are coming off a dominating 29-6 win over George Mason last Friday, with nine of the 10 Bobcat wrestlers earning victories. Junior Zayne Lehman  had the most dominant performance of the night for the Bobcats. Lehman dominated his match against Malachi DuVall who had come off of back-to-back MAC East Wrestler of the Week selections. For all three periods Lehman had the upper hand, ultimately winning with a 15-0 technical fall. 

INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD

The Ohio track and field team is back in action after a solid weekend of individual performances at the Hokie Invite. This week, Ohio is back on the road Jan. 26-27 when they head to the Penn State National Open. The two-day event will take place at the Multi-Sport Facility & Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track in University Park, Pa. Friday's events are set to start at 3 p.m., with Saturday's events scheduled for a 10:30 a.m. start. 

Ohio is coming off a trip to the Hokie Invite that saw a number of PRs. Four Bobcats placed in the top 10 of the women's 3,000 meters with personal-best performances. Junior Theresa Hagey led all Ohio runners with a second-place overall finish (9:39.15, PR). Sophomore Leila Boussedra (9:46.97, PR) placed fourth with junior Kelsi Harris (/9:47.03, PR) and graduate student Carina Weaver (/10:05.41, PR) following in fifth and sixth place. Sophomore Alyssa Mason (Dublin, Ohio) placed seventh in the 400m with a personal-best time of 2:14.85. 

SWIMMING & DIVING

The Ohio swimming in diving team (6-0) is back in Athens this weekend for one final dual meet before the MAC Championships. The Bobcats will host Ball State (4-0) at 2 p.m. inside the Ohio University Aquatics Center with the meet being streamed on YouTube. Saturday will also serve as Senior Day for Ohio, with the Bobcats recognizing 11 seniors for the contributions to the program. 
  
Ohio is coming off a 175-124 victory at Buffalo this past weekend, keeping the Bobcats undefeated in dual meets and in MAC meets.
