BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Ohio swimming and diving team (6-0) returned to action Saturday morning (Jan. 20) for their final road dual meet of the regular season, defeating Buffalo (1-4), 175-124, at the Dorsi Reynolds Natatorium on the campus of Buffalo.
In the 200-yard medley relay to open the meet, the Ohio 'A' team of senior
Riley Bunstine (Alexandria, Ohio), sophomore
Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio), senior
Gabrielle Brust (Granville, Ohio) and graduate student
McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio) placed second with a time of 1:44.79.
In the 1,000-yard freestyle, junior
Gabrielle McKee (Gilbertsville, Pa.) placed first, touching in with a time of 10:24.57, while freshman
Ashley Sallows (Delaware, Ohio) placed second (10:32), and senior
Morgan Croaning (Carmel, Ind.) finished third with a time of 10:33.77.
The 200 free saw four Bobcats earn top times, with freshman
Zita Szoke (Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary) placing first in 1:52.09, while Grau finished second in 1:54.61. Sophomore
Anna McGrath (Lewis Center, Ohio) finished fourth with a time of 1:55.63, while senior
Gabrielle Loring (Hudson, Ohio) finished fifth in 1:58.81.
Sophomore
Allison Schrank (Blaine, Minn.) placed second in the 100-yard backstroke, touching in with a time of 58.11, while Bunstine placed fifth in 58.67. The Bobcats then took the top-four spots in the 100-yard breaststroke, with DiBetta placing first in 1:03.14. Junior
Julia Strine (Shippensburg, Pa.) placed second in 1:04.00, followed by sophomore
Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) in third (1:05.75) and junior
Edie Sawyer (Cranberry Township, Pa.) in fourth (1:06.23).
Brust took the top spot in the 200 fly, finishing in 2:05.07, while senior
Peyton Farrell (Beavercreek, Ohio) finished fourth in 2:09.16. Ohio then took the top-four spots once again in the 50 free, with Grau placing first (24.06), followed by senior
Caroline Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa.) in second (24.06), senior
Meg Voigt (Bryan, Ohio) in third (24.30) and freshman
Katie Buroker (Zionsville, Ind.) in fourth place with a time of 24.85.
Szoke picked up another win in the 100 free, touching in with a time of 51.41, followed by Voigt I second with a of 52.59. Buroker then placed fourth, finishing with a time of 53.63. Freshman
Melanie Schweikert (Maineville, Ohio) placed third in the 200 back with a time of 2:05. 49, followed by Bunstine in fourth (2:07.69) and Schrank in fifth (2:08.76).
DiBetta earned a victory in the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:17.82, followed by Strine in second (2:20.14), Ellsworth in third (2:22.18) and Sawyer in fifth (2:27.20). McKee placed second in 500 free, finishing with a time of 5:03.85, followed by McGrath in third (5:08.74) and Croaning in fourth (5:10.59).
Brust earned a second-place finish in the 100 fly, finishing in 56.04, followed by Farrell in third with a time of 58.85. Brust then took the top spot in the 200 IM, placing first with a time of 2:08.19, followed by Ellsworth in second with a score time of 2:08.40. Junior
Raphaelle Anglade (Toulouse, France) placed fourth in the race, touching in with a time of 2:11.38.
In the final event of the afternoon, the 200 free relay, the Ohio 'A' team of Szoke, Voigt, Dunigan and Grau placed first with a time of 1:34.36.
In diving, freshman
Astrid Pichardo (Guanajuato, Mexico) took third with a score of 278.40. Pichardo also earned a third-place finish in the 1m event, finishing with a score of 275.25.
Up next, the Bobcats return to Athens for their final dual meet before MAC Championships on Saturday, Jan. 27 when Ohio hosts Ball State for Senior Day. The meet is set to start at 2 p.m. inside the Ohio University Aquatic Center and will be streamed on YouTube.
