Athens, Ohio – It's the first week of classes here at Ohio and Bobcat football is back in Athens, while cross country and men's and women's golf both open their season. Check out that and what else ahead for Ohio Athletics in this week's Paw Prints.
FOOTBALL

The Ohio football team (0-1) returns to Athens for the first time in 2023 this Saturday, Sept. 2 when the Bobcats welcome LIU (0-0) to town. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. EST at Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium. The game can be seen on ESPN+ where Michael Reghi and Jerod Cherry will be on the call.
The Bobcats look to continue the success from last season in Athens, where Ohio went undefeated at the Frank.

The Ohio soccer (2-0-1) team is back in action this week for two matches. The weekend starts off on Thursday, Aug. 31 when the Bobcats head to Huntington, W. Va. to take on Marshall (2-0-1). First touch is set for 6 p.m. at Hoops Family Field and can be seen on ESPN+. Ohio then returns to Athens on Sunday, Sept. 3 when the Bobcats host Northern Kentucky (1-1-2) at Chessa Field. First touch is set for 1 p.m. and for the first time at home during the regular season, Ohio soccer from Athens will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Bobcats won last year's matchups against both Marshall and NKU.
Ohio is coming off a 1-0 win over Cleveland State on Aug. 24 in Athens, before wrapping up the weekend with a 1-1 draw at Navy on Sunday.

The Ohio volleyball team (2-1) returns to action Sept. 1-2 at the 2023 Dayton Flyer Classic hosted by Dayton inside the Frericks Center. Ohio opens the weekend against Butler (3-0) on Friday, Sept. 1. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. The Bobcats are back on the court for two matchups on Saturday, Sept. 2 starting at 11 a.m. when Ohio faces off with North Dakota State (3-0). Ohio wraps up the weekend at 7 p.m. on Saturday when they take on host Dayton (2-1). That matchup can be seen on ESPN+.
Ohio is coming off a 2-1 weekend at the LD&B Insurance Invitational hosted by James Madison, where the Bobcats picked up wins over James Madison and High Point.
Sam Steele was named to the all-tournament team and tournament MVP, while
Caitlin O'Farrell also earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Both the men's and women's cross country teams are back in action this weekend when they head to Akron, Ohio on Friday, Sept. 1 for the 54th Annual Tommy Evans Invitational hosted by Akron at the Silver Creek Cross Country Trails. The women's 5k race is scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m., followed by the men's 6k at 6:45 p.m.
The women's cross country team is coming off one if it's most successful seasons in recent memory, finishing second at the 2022 MAC Championship and 10th at the 2022 Great Lakes Regional, their highest finish since 2006. Meanwhile, the men's team is looking to build on their sixth-place finish at MACs last season.

The Ohio field hockey (0-1) team returns to action this weekend when they head to Orono, Maine for two matchups hosted by Maine. The Bobcats open the weekend on Saturday, Sept. 2 when the Bobcats face off with Boston University (0-1). First touch is set for 1 p.m. at the UMaine Field Hockey Complex. The Bobcats conclude the weekend on Sunday, Sept. 3 when they take on host Maine (1-1). First touch is set for 12 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.

The Ohio men's golf team opens its 2023-24 season Sept. 3-4 at the 2023 Island Resort Intercollegiate. The two-day event is hosted by South Dakota State at Sage Run Golf Course in Harris, Mich.The Bobcats open the tournament with 36 holes on Sunday, before finishing the tournament with 18 holes on Monday. Competing with Ohio are: Boise State, Bowling Green, Costal Carolina, Illinois State, Miami, Michigan, North Texas, South Dakota State, St. Mary's and UCF.
WOMEN'S GOLF

The Ohio women's golf team begins it's 2023-24 season Sept. 3-4 at the 2023 A-Ga-Ming Invitational hosted by Central Michigan at the Sundance Golf Course in Kewadin, Mich. Ohio begins the tournament on Sunday with 36 holes, before wrapping up the weekend on Monday with 18 holes. Also competing with the Bobcats are: Abilene Christian, Bradley, Central Michigan, Detroit Mercy, Eastern Michigan, Green Bay, Niagara, Oakland, Purdue Fort Wayne and Western Michigan.
