BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Ohio swimming and diving team returned to action on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 28) for their first Mid-American Conference meet of the season, defeating Bowling Green, 195-105 at Cooper Pool.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the Ohio 'A' team of sophomore
Allison Schrank (Blaine, Minn.), sophomore
Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio), senior
Gabrielle Brust (Granville, Ohio) and senior
Meg Voigt (Shippensburg, Pa.) placed second, finishing with a time of 1:45.02.
In the 1,000-yard freestyle, junior
Gabrielle McKee (Gilbertsville, Pa.) placed first with a time of 10:16.73, while senior
Morgan Croaning (Carmel, Ind.) finished second (10:32.90) and freshman
Ashley Sallows (Delaware, Ohio) finished third with a time of 10:37.04.
In the 200 free, Ohio took the top three spots with freshman
Zita Szoke (Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary) finishing first in 1:52.35, followed by sophomore
Anna McGrath (Lewis Center, Ohio) in second (1:54.30) and graduate student
McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio) in third with a time of 1:54.41). Then in the 100-yard back, freshman
Melanie Schweikert (Maineville, Ohio) placed second in 58.79, followed by senior
Riley Bunstine (Alexandria, Ohio) in third (58.86) and Schrank in fourth in 58.96.
The 100-yard breaststroke saw Ohio once again take the top two places, with DiBetta finishing first in 1:03.45. Junior
Julia Strine (Shippensburg, Pa.) finished second (1:04.81) and sophomore
Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) in third with a time of 1:05.20.
In the 200-yard fly, Brust placed first in 2:03.38, followed by McKee in second with a time of 2:05.24. Grau returned to the pool for the 50 free, placing first with a time of 24.18, while senior
Caroline Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa.) finished second in 24.21.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Szoke placed first with a time of 52.21, while Dunigan finished third (53.41) and freshman
Katie Buroker (Zionsville, Ind.) and Voigt tied for fourth with a time of 53.58. The Bobcats earned another first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, with Schweikert earning the victory with a time of 2:04.59, while Bunstine finished fourth in 2:06.02.
DiBetta placed first once again in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:19.47, while Ellsworth finished second (2:20.31), Strine finished third (2:21.31) and junior
Edie Sawyer finished fourth with a time of 2:24.52.
McKee earned the victory in the 500 free with a time of 5:01.51, followed by McGrath in second with a time of 5:06.27. Brust picked up a win in the100 fly, touching the wall with a time of 56.39. Senior
Peyton Farrell (Beavercreek, Ohio) earned a third-place finish in 58.16.
Brust earned another win in the 200-yard IM, finishing the race in 2:06.56, followed by Ellsworth in second (2:06.86) and DiBetta in third with a time of 2:11.84.
In the 200-yard free relay, the Ohio 'A' team of Dunigan, Voigt, Grau and Szoke finished first with a time of 1:35.74.
In diving, freshman
Savanna Bos (Cincinnati, Ohio) placed third in the 3m event with a score of 245.55, followed by freshman
Stephanie Balthaser (Delaware, Ohio) in fifth (237.75) and freshman
Astrid Pichardo (Guanajuato, Mexico) in sixth with a score of 231.00. Then in the in 1m event, Pichardo placed third with a score of 248.25.
Up next, the Bobcats are back in Athens on Saturday, Nov. 4 when Ohio faces off with MAC foe Akron. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m. at the Ohio University Aquatic Center.
