BALTIMORE, Md. – The Ohio swimming and diving program returned to action Friday evening (Oct. 20), defeating UMBC, 240-59, inside the UMBC Aquatic Complex.
The Bobcats earned first place finishes in 15 out of 16 events.
The Bobcats opened the night in the 200-yard medley relay, with the Ohio 'A' team of sophomore
Morgan Brown (Roanoke, Ind.), sophomore
Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio), senior
Gabrielle Brust (Granville, Ohio) and graduate student
McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio) placing first with a time of 1:46.95.
Ohio took the top four spots in the 1,000-yard freestyle, with freshman
Ashley Sallows (Delaware, Ohio) finishing first in 10:35.34, followed by senior
Morgan Croaning (Carmel, Ind.) in second in 10:46.18. Senior
Olivia Morlok (Columbus, Ind.) placed third, finishing in 10:50.08, while senior
Cecelia Creviston (Cincinnati, Ohio) placed fourth with a time of 11:11.74.
The Bobcats went one-two-three in the 200-yard free, leading with sophomore
Anna McGrath (Lewis Center, Ohio) placing first in 1:55.31. Senior
Meg Voigt (Bryan, Ohio) finished second (1:55.88, while sophomore
Peyton Binns (Hudson, Ohio) finished third in 1:58.32.
Brust earned a victory in the 100-yard back, touching in at 57.78. Brown placed third with a time of 59.49. Ohio followed that race with the 100-yard breaststroke, taking the top four spots. DIBetta finished first (1:04.87), followed by junior
Julia Strine (Shippensburg, Pa.) in second (1:05.77), sophomore
Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) in third (1:06.59) and junior
Edie Sawyer (Cranberry Township, Pa.) in fourth (1:06.93).
Junior
Gabrielle McKee (Gilbertsville, Pa.) earned a victory in the 200 fly, placing first in 2:06.92. Senior
Peyton Farrell (Beavercreek, Ohio) placed second (2:08.49), while junior
Raphaelle Anglade (Toulouse, France) finished third (2:12.30).
Freshman
Zita Szoke (Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary) earned a win in the 50 free, finishing in 24.24, while Grau placed second in 24.53. Szoke followed that with a win in the 100 free, touching in with a time fo 52.37. Senior
Caroline Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa.) placed second in 53.42, followed by freshman
Katie Buroker (Zionsville, Ind.) in third with a time of 53.81.
Senior
Riley Bunstine (Alexandria, Ohio) placed second in the 200 back with a time of 2:06.54, while McKee placed third in 2:06.58, DiBetta earned another victory in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:21.40, followed by Strine in second (2:22.48) and Sawyer in third (2:45.58).
The Bobcats took the top four spots in the 500 free, with Sallows in first (5:15.10), Croaning in second (5:17.26), Morlok in third (5:20.31) and senior
Gabrielle Loring (Hudson, Ohio) in fourth (5:21.40).
Brust picked up a victory in the 100 fly, touching in with a time of 56.57. Farrell finished second in 59.57, followed by McGrath in third with a time of 59.75.
In the 200 IM, Ellsworth placed first with a time of 2:07.14, followed by Grau in second (2:09.02), McKee in third (2:09.14) and Brown in fourth (2:15.99).
In the 400-yard freestyle medley relay, the Ohio 'A' team of Voigt, Szoke, Buroker and Dunigan placed first with a time of 3:36.00.
In diving, freshman
Astrid Pichardo (Guanajuato, Mexico) earned victories in both the 1m and 3m events. In the 1m event, Pichardo earned a score of 278.20, earning her NCAA Zone cut.
Also in the 1m freshman
Savanna Bos (Cincinnati, Ohio) placed second with a score of 236.90, while junior
Grace Matocha (Magnolia, Texas) placed fourth with a score of 209.75. In 3m, Bos finished second , while freshman
Stephanie Balthaser (Delaware, Ohio) finished third.
Up next, Ohio heads to Bowling Green for its first MAC dual meet of the season on Saturday, Oct. 28. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
