Ohio Field Hockey Shuts Out Queens, 2-0

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio field hockey team (4-2, 0-1 MAC) returned to action on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 18), defeating Queens University of Charlotte (0-6), 2-0, at Pruitt Field. 
 
Overall, Ohio finished the game with 25 total shots, with 17 of them on goal, while Queens recorded one shot with one shot on goal. Ohio also registered 10 corners, while Queens did not attempt one. 
 
Freshman Mijntje Ligtenberg scored one goal on five shots, with two on goal, while freshman Sasha Dikotla (Johannesburg, South Africa) also added one goal and four shots, with three on net. Senior Katelyn Whittle (Glenwood, Md.) added 10 shots, with seven on goal, while junior Meela Kopp (Louisville, Ky.) added two shots with two on goal. Freshman Anouk Plaehn (Lower Saxony, Germany), senior Weslee Littlefield (Oakland, Maine) and senior Lucy Davis (Kettering, Ohio) all registered one shot each. 
 
In net, junior Macy Lotze (Louisville, Ky.) got the start, playing all 60 minutes and recording the shutout while making one save. 
 
"We had just talked a little bit about our press and you know how they outlet and how we're going to, cover the lines and who's covering where," head coach Ali Johnstone said. "Our team did well with that at the beginning. It got a little tricky but then we figured out, so our press was really good."
 
The first two quarters saw several chances for the Bobcats; however, Ohio was unable to capitalize, sending the game to the half with it tied at 0-0. 
 
Overall, Ohio recorded 12 shots and seven penalty corners, while Queens recorded one shot and no corners. 
 
Ohio struck in the 32nd minute when Ligtenberg scored on a free hit, giving the Bobcats a 1-0 after three full quarters of play. The Bobcats added on in the fourth quarter, when Dikotla scored in the 56th minute, putting Ohio up 2-0 late in the game. The Ohio offense continued to generate chances; however, the Queens keeper was able to keep the ball out of the cage the remining four minutes, allowing Ohio to seal the 2-0 victory. 
 
Up next, the Bobcats head to Farmville, Va. on Friday, Sept. 23 when they take on MAC opponent Longwood. First touch is set for 6 p.m.
