Ohio Field Hockey Falls to Towson on the Road

TOWSON, Md. – The Ohio field hockey team (3-1) returned to action on Sunday afternoon, falling to Towson (2-4), 4-1 at the TU Field Hockey Complex. 
 
Overall, Towson outshot Ohio 14-8, while both teams recorded five corners. Ohio took the advantage in saves, recording six the Towson's five. 
 
Individually, freshman Anouk Plaehn (Lower Saxony, Germany) scored Ohio's lone goal on two shots with two on goal. Sophomore Noa Desmaretz (Antwerp, Belgium) added an assist, while senior Katelyn Whittle (Glenwood, Md) and freshman Mijntje Ligtenberg both registered two shots with one on goal. Freshman Sasha Dikotla (Johannesburg, South Africa) added one shot with one on goal for Ohio. 
 
In goal, graduate student Nele Graner (Bonn, Germany) plated 49 minutes, allowing four goals, and making four saves. Junior Macy Lotze (Louisville, Ky.) played 10 minutes, allowing no goals, and making two saves. 
 
Ohio struck first in the first quarter with Plaehn scoring in the 13th minute off an assist from Desmaretz, putting Ohio up 1-0 after the first 15 minutes. 
 
However, Towson would respond, scoring two straight goals in the second period, giving them the 2-1 lead going into halftime. 
 
At the half, both teams registered seven shots and three corners, while Towson registered four saves to Ohio's three. 
 
Towson opened the second half with a goal in the 37th minute, before adding another one in the 49th minute, giving them a 4-1 advantage over the Bobcats. The Ohio offense would generate a couple of chances of the remaining minutes, however, would be unable to capitalize, falling by the final of 4-1. 
 
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Sept. 16 when they head to Oxford, Ohio to open Mid-American Conference play against Miami. First touch is set for 1 p.m.
